The litter in a poultry house acts as bedding for the birds. In addition to standing and resting on the bedding, birds will naturally peck at the litter. Litter condition and quality have an impact on broiler intestinal health and profitability, starting from when the chicks are placed all the way through production.

Wet litter presents a vicious cycle for intestinal health. Without proper management, even in patches, wet litter can serve as a breeding ground for potential pathogens and may be a starting point for intestinal stress that develops and leads to disease. As wet litter problems increase, ammonia levels in the barn rise, which can be potentially detrimental to bird health. It is much easier to prevent and manage litter moisture conditions before they start.

Some factors to consider which may help prevent the development of wet litter: type of material, quality of litter, litter depth, water quality, drinker line management, lighting management, ventilation and temperature.

Litter that is too dry and dusty can be one of many indications that the birds may not be drinking enough. Too much dusty material may lead to respiratory problems.

How to Make Chickens Lay More Eggs Without Drugs

If it is possible to make your chickens lay more eggs, then why don't you just ask? Well, the truth is a lot of people ask me this question all the time. In fact, I can say that people can't get enough. Even when some layers suddenly fall to 89% production after doing some 93%, farmers still want to take the number up. I don't blame them; who doesn't want more eggs, and more money?
But let's talk about critical situations - when you find out that your hens can hardly pay for their feed. Or when what is left after production cost is not as expected. At this stage, you really need something that works. So, I will help you.

Litter is a very important product in poultry growing, because birds are exposed to the litter and its contents (microbes, moisture, ammonia, dust, odour, and texture) from the first day of life.

To a large extent this can have an impact on their performance. Badly managed litter may facilitate the spread of certain infectious diseases, and also creates problems which lead to serious economic losses.

DEEP LITTER SYSTEM HOUSING FOR BIRDS

The deep litter poultry housing system, as the name suggests involves keeping the birds on the floor, with litter on the floor. The starting depth of the litter is 3 inches to 5 inches, with litter being added on top every time the bird’s droppings seem to exceed the amount of litter.

The litter material can be wood shavings, rice husks, peanut hulls, chopped rice straw, shredded sugarcane or any other organic materials that are good at absorbing moisture. This method saves on labour since the bird droppings are never cleaned out.

The litter needs periodic stirring. The most important activity in the deep litter system is keeping the litter dry.

ADVANTAGES OF DEEP LITTER SYSTEM
1.Ease of management - hence less labour. In a well managed deep litter system, the litter in changed once a year. This means there is less labour required when it comes to cleaning.

2.Bacterial activity in the litter produces vitamin B2 and B12, which are beneficial to the birds.

3.The litter can be used as farm manure. The value of deep litter manure is considered to be 3 times the value of cattle manure.

4.The heat from the bacterial activity provides both cooling and heating for the birds. During hot seasons, the hot air rises and cool air comes in, giving the birds a cooling effect. In cold seasons, the heat from the litter provides warmth for the birds.

In a well managed deep-litter system, there is less risk of coccidiosis and worm infestations, as compared to the free range system.

Just incase you dont know that survival poultry farm services construct deep litter system, of cos we do

DEBEAKING NUMBER 1 SOLUTION OF CANNIBALISM

WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF DEBEAKING

Debeaking (also called beak trimming) is the act of cutting the lower and upper points of the beaks. The trimmed upper beak is usually shorter than the lower beak. Debeaking birds will help prevent feed wastage, cannibalism, feather pecking, and egg eating.

Our birds are debeaked when they are 9 weeks old, and this prevent "CANNIBALISM" Buy from the right source and have peace of mind.

Promotional offer is still ongoing on our cages
