The unemployed are people who have skills beneficial to society but they don’t have or can’t find a job where they can utilize those skills. Most of the unemployed individuals are very educated and have skills.

But

Unemployable are people that have no education or skills that can be utilized or beneficial to society. Even if you try to employ the unemployable, they best you can get out of them is manual labor.

Now what NBS focuses on is the unemployed and majority of their data is self reported.

It depends on area of application; where and how it is used. Many of our graduates are not employable, even if you give them jobs now, how many of them are job ready; many of them don't have enough relevant skills to carry out the tasks practically irrespective of how many degrees they possess.

Our tertiary institutions are only turning out unemployable graduates every year because many of our lecturers are not even competent. It is very hard in our higher institution today to see up to three lecturers in each department that are competent in term of practical and ability to transfer knowledge to younger generation not in term of certificate each of them acquires.

How many of them can carry out reasonable researches that companies will like to assist with funds? It is now becoming like father like son, like lecturers like graduates they turn out yearly. It is now very hard to see 10 out of 100 students in each department that are job ready or employable after graduation.

How many students can stand alone on their own on courses they studied in tertiary institutions after graduation even if there is no job ? Even if you give them financial support, only few can succeed because many of our graduates only possess irrelevant skills. Some can tell you everything about Messi and Ronaldo, all the premier league scorers in the last ten years without opening a note, but can not describe simplest term in his/her areas of study.

Our schools need to be restructured, is no longer functioning; it is indirectly contributing to increase in crime. Most of the criminals and Yahoo guys being caught on daily basis are either graduates or in tertiary institutions because some of them are being frustrated after expectations are cut off after graduations and NYSC.

Some students also cause this for themselves, when you enter University for 4yrs course. Out of 4yrs, you spent 31/2yrs on irrelevant sport analysis about Ronaldo and Messi that you know will not put food on your table in the future or you spent 31/2yrs watching too much movies and music when you know you will not end up becomming actor or musician in the future.

All these shouldn't be too much if you know you don't want to become unemployable in the future. This is another reason why many are quickly going back to school for their master programmes immediately after NYSC when there is no employability skills and job. God will help us
