Ikeast: Selective blindness and deafness are features of many who are opposed to what the church stand for. Unfortunately, these lots do stand as if they are fighting for the church. The only thing Oyedepo hasn't done on Bandits and Christian killers is to pick up arms by himself. |

What is anti Christian in Government enacting laws to regulate the activities of religion? The same country has a law that everyone is free to practice his/her religion and also made it compulsory to register a church under Nigeria law and no one including the clergyman trying to refute government intention. The same church he claim to be God whatever on Earth was build with approval from Government and why must he seek approval from Government if he so believe that his church is above the government laws cos it belong to God. I have worship in his church severally and also lodge there but there are things that u don't just have to support him for cos he's human and not free from some unguarded utterance. I was in the church when Jonathan came there during when he was seeking reelection and I was shocked when he said Christian's should vote for Christian and that God told him Jonathan will emerge as the winner cos God told him so. Religion is dividing humanity. ERockson: |

authority2006:because the uk govt can be trusted to be civil and law abiding, but this is Nigeria where people are invited by dss just for criticising the govt and some persons are incacerated for months because they dared to protest against the govt. The govt faced with more serious security and economic challenges would rather divert energy towards lesser issues rather than tackling insecurity head on strikes a sinister chord. 1 Like |

Churches cannot pay taxes because churches are funded by voluntary donations from members i.e. tithes and offerings. Members of the church are also citizens who have paid taxes at different levels and it will amount to multiple taxation if i have to pay government a part of my income which I deemed to be given to God, its a faith offering and because I don't share same faith with millions of others for instance who don't even want my church in their domain, they cannot be benefiting from my own offering to a God we don't share and this is why I believe taxes from brewery products such as beer should not go to states that do not share in the freedom of drinking beer. its either hypocritical or morally insane. Churches are registered as Not for Profit, nothing is wrong with churches submitting their financials for accountability purpose but any clause that gives government power to appoint trustee for the church is a BAD as it signifies a covert intention for government to take over churches and other religious groups but I feel its the church that is the target. The Bishop's position that Nigeria is our collective country is true and let me just advise politicians running in 2023, I believe most Christians will side with him on this issue and vote out against any politician that will not stand for the amendment of that law. Remember the corporate governance law that started it all but was shelved and cleverly inserted into CAMA one way or the other. Why must Nigeria share the same law with the UK? All the traditional altars that politicians go and all the monies they spend there, who gives the financial reports of that? who gives the financial reports of all the Islamic ceremonies like naming etc? The target is the church obviously and this will backfire certainly should the church rally around this in 2023. It will resonate soundly!!! For Lawretta Onochie, she will pay for her utterance when she will need the church. God is watching. To all those who complain about pastors holding the church as personal property, what exactly do you want? Your politicians use private jets, you are not holding them to be accountable, except for church members, if you don't contribute to a church you have no right to complain about the church's expenses! To those who complained about pastors riding fancy cars, some also complained when Jesus Christ rode a mule. Many pastors also have businesses that fetch them good money and they pay taxes on them so what are you really looking for? A poor church or poor Christians? The Bible didn't say Christians or churches should be poor because God is not poor, He has a city of gold. Churches are some of the largest employer of labor in this country e.g RCCG, Winners, Christ Embassy just name it. They also contribute to intellectual and community developments having educational institutions, hospitals etc. I will advise Southerners especially Christians to weigh the impacts of the church on their lives and society and imagine if government has to run those churches through their proxies in the name of trustees! This is a gift from God to us and we must appreciate it because you don't know the value of what you have until you lose it. I don't think church leaders were part of the enactment of a law that is not in the interest of the church because church members are Nigerians. THE VOTE WILL TALK and I hope people are reading between the lines |

TheOgaBoss: There is freedom of association and speech in Nigeria to a large extent. Our problem is that we don't know when our freedom start to constitute security threats. Imagine calling and protesting for revolution, self determination and all that craps which can easily snowball into chaos, crisis. Back to the topic, let us all abide by the law so that it can get better. It doesn't make sense when you surrendered to law and scrutiny in UK but screaming to heaven in Nigeria and threatening fire and brimstone |

ERockson: Jesus paid the temple tax. Who are you following Jesus or Oyedepo? Nothing compels a fellowship to register under CAMA apart from corporate identity, perpetual succession and no tax status. It is entirely possible to have an unregistered church If it will not open a bank account in it's name or if it trusts it's elders to hold using a bank account. The greatest lure is tax-free status and if you come under government regulations for cover they have a right to regulate you. Church is not a legal structure, it is people coming together anywhere. We have done home church for over seven years and we are not registered. We don't take collections of any type including tithe, we only raise money for the needs of the brethren as and when needed. Its transparent and clear. If our meeting doesnt outlast our lives in our lication, its fine, we have sown seeds. It is the apeing of corporate culture and bigness fallacy that affects what now passes as a church. Lauretta has said nothing wrong, even if her speech was unnecessary. 1 Like |

lexy2014: Hmmmm The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) of Nigeria was established in 1990 vide Companies and Allied Matters Act no 1 (CAMA) 1990[1] as amended, now on Act cap C20 Laws of federation of Nigeria.[2] It is an autonomous body charged with the responsibility to regulate the formation and management of companies in Nigeria. It carry out its functions through accredited members of Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). It is headed by a Registrar-General. Prior to the enactment of CAMA, these activities were carried on under the Companies Act 1968. (CA 1948)[3 |
