Haiku is a Japanese poetry form. The best haiku uses just a few words to capture a moment and create a picture in the reader's mind. It is like a tiny window into a scene much larger than itself.
In English, haiku is normally written in three lines, with five syllables in the first line, seven syllables in the second line, and five syllables in the third line.
So if you are ready lets go! I'll start ,

      The fierce thunderstorm
      excited dormant clouds anew
      In blinking seconds.

the cold rainy day
stormy clouds darkly shrouded
an army at war

O good. I like haikus. I was starting to wonder if I was the only Nigerian that knew about haikus.

                                                           Embers in the hearth,
Are coaxed by the passing wind,
                                                            But bring forth no flames.
I composed that when the attraction I felt towards a certain person died, and the feelings were no longer kindered by seeing them. tongue tongue tongue
I am coming with more to keep this going, although I foresee an early death for this thread.
Many Nigerians are not educated.
@Kodewrita and Lindalee,
Your last lines both have six syllables.

Hmm! nice write-ups:

The strength of the wind,
swaying the branches around,
to its own rhythm.

@ Kodewrita: that was a good one, the essence of haiku is to make us see beyond the natural existence and urs really did that. Nice piece!! kudos

The tears in the eyes,

Crawling in formless delight,

When your child is born.

All the tears in the world,
Yet such bright beauty.

Panting beside the rivers,

Of strenght and weakness.

A plot that is mine.

Hmmm. Haikus. I think I can get used to this thread.

I'm gonna try one but with a little twist.

All animals age
Beautiful babes become bald
Constant curse can't cease

How's that?
