Today’s blog post brings to mind the saying of Francesca Annis who said; “The minute anyone’s getting anxious I say, ‘You must eat and you must sleep.’ They’re the two vital elements for a healthy life.” Well, we understand that different things can kick us off balance and we certainly don’t respond the same way to situations. But either you agree with this or not, we all need to eat and sleep to stay healthy and remain hopeful irrespective of circumstance.

Let us toll the street that takes us from our sleep cycle to having a productive day. But before then, it is important to say that sleep is a vital part of our lives. A good night of sleep can boost your day and make you as productive as you want so long as you don’t have underlining health complications or issues. The benefit of getting a good night’s sleep cannot be overemphasized as sleep generally play a strong role in the general well-being of a person.

Sleep-Cycle
Quickly, let us see what a sleep cycle is. Findings have shown that we have various stages in the sleep cycle and of course, this sequence is experienced throughout the duration we sleep, irrespective of if it’s in the day or night. It takes different persons’ diverse time to fall asleep, however, on average it takes between 10-25 minutes to fall asleep. According to sleepcyle.com “Sleep cycles are part of our internal biological “clocks” the regularly occurring patterns of brain waves which occur while we sleep. Sleep cycles typically last around ninety minutes to two hours.” It further made it clear that we have 5 stages of sleep.

Effect of sleep on productivity
A low quality sleep has a way of interfering with your daily life and inversely leads to less productivity. This means that you find yourself dozing off on your desk too frequently. This is very peculiar with those that have to work sitting in one position for a long time. On the other hand, those that are constantly mobile as they discharge their duties may not struggle with this, but they may become fatigued too quickly and frequently.

Poor sleep negatively influences our productivity. Whereas, a good sleep boosts our productivity. A night of good sleep can be summarized to mean the amount of sleep we get plus the consistency of our sleep time. These are things the brain takes note of and work with.

The next question we want to answer is how a good sleep cycle can result in a productive day. A good sleep pattern can make you become more imaginative and achieve more at work or in the day. Napping is a little bit of a different thing even though it’s a form of sleep. Here are the sleep hacks you need to achieve daily productivity and get things done.

Put away gadgets
For an improved sleep cycle, you need to learn to put away gadgets like phones, laptops, tabs, and television. Your sleep time is not when you should start chatting or reading the dailies and responding to emails. it is advisable you schedule and time the activities you want to engage in before your sleep time and make sure you stick to it. The blue light from screens has a way of keeping you awake, once you are ready to sleep, do away with them.

Take a warm bath
The easiest way for the body to fall asleep is in a related state. Taking a warm bath at about the same time every night before going to bed would greatly improve your sleep cycle. How this works, it helps to regulate the body temperature afterward, brings you into a tranquil state that makes it easy for your body to snooze off.

Sleep in good time
An old saying goes thus; “early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” Whether this is true or not, what we know is that going to bed in time helps you get a good amount of rest and wake up feeling refreshed. During sleep, the body rests and replenishes. When you sleep say- around 10 pm, your body can relax and wake up feeling refreshed given that you get an adequate amount of sleep.

Keep the room cool
Your bedroom would most likely be the place where you sleep. Make it clean and suiting. Change your bedsheet when you have too. Invest in a good mattress that guarantees comfort as well as supports your body. If decorations make an environment beautiful for you, go ahead and make your room whatever you want it to be like. Create the sleep environment you want and enjoy quality sleep that guarantees a productive day.

Put off the light
You can use an eye mask or put off the light to fall asleep easily. Melatonin is the hormone the body releases in darkness, this can contribute to helping the body relax better when you lay on your bed.


Get a sleep routine
To get adequate sleep, you need to schedule a sleep routine that you will stick to. Ensure it gives at least, 7 hours of sleep. Try as much as you can to go to bed at the same time at a particular hour and stand up at a particular hour every day, this would help your sleep circle. Even if you would give yourself bonus hours at weekend, ensure it’s not more than 2 hours.

Finally, no matter how tight your schedule is, endeavor to create the time for quality sleep so that you have more frequent productive days. To accomplish in the day, make sure your night is utilized. That is when the body relaxes and replenishes, like machines, the body needs rest too.
