Buhari On The Offensive With CAMA, Social Media Bill, And National Water bill. National Water Bill In a statement on Thursday, Mr Soyinka warned that the bill, if passed into law, would hand the president “absolute control over the nation’s entire water resources, both over and underground. ” “A roundly condemned project, blasted out of sight by public outrage one or two years ago, is being exhumed and sneaked back into service by none other than a failed government, and with the consent of a body of people, supposedly elected to serve as custodians of the rights, freedoms and existential exigencies of millions,” Mr Soyinka said in the statement titled MLK’s Mighty Stream of Righteosuness,’ in reference to the late Martin Luther King’s ‘I have a dream’ speech. Social Media Bill Protection from Internet Falsehoods, Manipulations and Other Related Matters Bill Declaration According to the bill, a law enforcement department can issue a “declaration” to offenders. And this declaration will be issued even if the “false statement” has been corrected or pulled down. The offender will be required to publish a “correction notice” in a specified newspaper, online location or other printed publication of Nigeria. Failure to comply, a person is liable to N200,000 or 12 months imprisonment or both (for individual) and five million naira for organisations. Access blocking order The bill says the law enforcement department will also issue an access blocking order to offenders. The law enforcement department may direct the NCC to order the internet access service provider to disable access by users in Nigeria to the online location and the NCC must give the internet access service provider an access blocking order. An internet access service provider that does not comply with any access blocking order is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding ten million naira for each day during any part of which that order is not fully complied with, up to a total of five million naira. It has however been rejected by various Non-governmental and religious groups who believes that the unpopular NGO regulation bill was smuggled into the new law. The organizations are seeking an amendment to the provisions made in sections 839 (1) & (2) of the law, which empowers the Corporate Affairs Commission to suspend trustees of an association (in this case, the church). https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2020/08/24/unease-over-section-839-of-cama-2020-law/ https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/411128-soyinka-warns-buharis-failed-government-over-water-resources-bill.html

There is a limit to propaganda. You can dress a tyrant in a suit, but that will still not make him change his evil ways.

yomexp: He agreed CAMA was enacted to check pentecostal Pastors that speak against government, that sit on trustees of the church and are in control of the finances. It will be used as a source of blackmail to silence the vocal pentecostal pastors like Oyedepo,Suleiman etc. |
