It is no news that Yahaya Aminu, the kano Singer who was sentenced to death by the sharia court on the 10th of August ,2020, for allegedly insulting prophet Muhammed has been denied access to Lawyers as appeal Deadline nears. While this is happening, many Nigerians are not concerned and the clamour for the release of the man has dwindled, one could actually make the case of common Nigerians who lack power and the necessary resources to fight for justice. But what do we say of the Nigerian political class who have decided to shun the ongoing injustice going on in kano? where are the opposition parties and the human Rights activists? where are those quick to jump on any national issue and criticize? Are we going to allow religion to oppress& victimize our people?

On the 26th of February, Governor Ganduje AKA the Gandollar promised to sign the death warrant of the Kano singer, as soon as the deadline for the appeal Court expires, in his words, “What happened is so important to the state and to the security of the state and the nation in general. What the Court did is absolutely right. And we support it completely. Such kind of irresponsible act, if not because of the state power, nobody could know what would happen in the future,” How could a Governor utter such statements, infact the sharia court was the one actually wrong! It will also shock you to know that he made this in the presence of the Commissioner of representative of Christian Association of Nigeria, Igwe Boniface Ibekwe; representatives of Nigerian Bar Association, and representatives of muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria. According to the universal law of declaration of Human Rights, Religious freedom and freedom of speech are entrenched in it, More so, Nigeria is a nation claiming to be operating a democracy, how can government allow religious law to oversee a secular country? religious law are a stain on human Rights! And let's not forget freedom of speech is entrenched in section 39(1) of federal republic of Nigeria constitution.

Many people often think, what is my concern? as long as it happening in the North, the truth is, there is a day it's going to get to you, perhaps, those who say this are a not awrae of the 19th century jihad that swept and changed the history of Yorubaland, while the fulani jihadist attacked a Yoruba town, the others would often look away, only for they themselves to be conquered. Without diverting, the endorsement of this outrageous act by the Muslim Lawyers association of Nigeria speaks volume of how religion had destroyed the progress of African continent, why would lawyers who should be the heart of Human Rights be at the forefront of advocating for the death of Yahaya ?. The only reason we can advance for this is the Quest for the political class to maintain their hold on power, by appeasing their religious Base, are we going go to sit back and watch with our very own eyes the injustice going on in our own country?

It should also be remembered that the Youth of kano burned down the family of house of the kano Singer that allegedly insulted prophet Muhammed, is that not jungle justice?, Has anyone been punished for that?it just shows that the Northern political elites are going to do anything to appease their religious Base, if the Sharia court is really for justice, why are they denying him lawyers? according to a lawyer and human Rights activist, Mr Femi Falana (SAN),he said he had asked a lawyer to meet with Sharif-Aminu but the lawyer was denied access by prison authorities. He said, “I sent a lawyer to take up the case and meet with him (Sharif-Aminu) but he was denied access.”

In conclusion, all hands should be on Deck to put pressure on the kano state govt, both locally and internationally, religious law should have no place in democracy because they are dangerous and undemocratic, with what is happening, we have been able know how far the rulling elites will go to appease their religious base, where is Atiku? Where is Peter obi? Where is former Emir of kano, Sanusi? Are we going to sit back and allow our freedom be stripped away from us? and for those supporting the barbaric act,you are nothing but a waste of western education!

If your religion is becoming unbearable, leave it and become permanently free.

We still have a long way to go before we conquer the effect of religion in this country, especially Islam.

The poor masses especially those in the north(no offense meant) don't know that these religious laws are being used by our extremely minority leaders to strangle their grip on the vast majority of Nigerians. These leaders hardly follow these laws. If not doesn't both the Bible and Quran condemn stealing
Nigerian youths open your eyes. Don't let your numerous years of Schooling be of waste. Let's make our fatherland proud.
