The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards held last night, August 30, 2020, with performances that aired from different locations in New York City due to the Covid-19 pandemic. 

Keke Palmer who hosted the event from an outdoor set near the Empire State Building kicked off the ceremony with a pre-recorded video honoring Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, who died at age 43 on Friday August 28, after a four-year battle with colon cancer. Boseman was “a true hero”, said Palmer, “not just on screen, but in everything he did.”

Lady Gaga, who led the evening with nine nominations alongside Arina Grande, won five honours at the MTV Video Music Awards
