Appeal Court Upholds Inec’s Power To Deregister Parties by AAA593: 10:24pm On Sep 02, 2020
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja yesterday dismissed the appeal filed by Hope Democratic Party challenging the judgment of Federal High Court which upheld the power of INEC to deregister the party.

Justices Bitrus Sanga, Lokulo Sodipe and Oniyangi in a unanimous decision adopted its judgment in NUP (National Unity Party) which is on fours with the case put forward by the Hope Democratic Party.
This latest Judgment has once again reaffirmed for a second time at the Appeal Court level INEC’s power to deregister the 74 parties.

This Judgment reinforces INEC position on the deregistration of the 74 parties and their decision to Appeal the conflicting Judgments from the same Appeal court in favour of 22 of the deregistered parties.

We need a three party system... after the two big criminal parties that allot and swap positions within themselves; let’s all other parties merge as one to contend with them...

There is no conflict.it depends on what was brought before the court.someone explained it last week.
In the first judgment of the appeal court,it agreed that inec has powers to deregister and that the excuse by the appellants that there was a coming election which would have determined if they met the threshold or not was baseless since inec already followed the processes.....

In the second ruling, the appeal court ruled that inec has the powers to deregister but must follow certain laid down processes and conditions first before the deregistration and that evidence before them showed that inec did not follow the processes which invalidates the move...

I don't know the meat of this third case but it looks similar to the first ruling.the key thing is that inec has the power to deregister but must follow laid down processes not unilateral dereg
