After my masters ,I decided to go for a PhD.. But I reasoned I ain't earning money with my certificate(i earn money through skills only) This is the IT & Digital era...People are making money with skills so a certificate whether PhD, Master's or Bsc is almost useless in this society we are.

Education is very valuable it's just that Nigerians are not innovative they are waiting to be spoon fed by the government. There are too many opportunities in Nigeria , tooooo many. The Government'no dae even reason those sectors hence the private sector should harness those opportunities and cash out . I always tell people with the number of opportunities littered in Nigeria I'll be naive to leave . I will simply take advantage and make billions . Idea and innovation is key.
You are wrong, I'm so pissed at your statement. May I ask you what your IQ is? I'm sure its either we are at thesame IQ level or mine is higher, and I'm not yet rich, which means it doesn't work the way you mentioned it.

Before anyone use any opportunity, they would first breathe, feed, cloth, sheltered, once there's no way for an average youth to do cater for those things doing petty thing, the way to making it big would be limited.

Is it not money that they will use to learn skills?
Won't they wear cloth to be able to connect with people?
If there's no food in the belly, how will they have the energy to even think to do anything?
This is the major problem of the youths, once basic needs are met, they can get to any height, but in Nigeria, people still lack basic needs, that need to be sought out first, and that's where the problem is

Don't mind the hypocrites. They forgot that many still lack basic needs, which is why they can't go to some length.

Isn't it money that would be used to learn a skill?
It took me more than a year that I wished to learn graphics designing, I have Patience, I have the brain, I can endure hardships, I can be humbled to my teacher, I am smart etc, but I didn't't have a laptop, nor did I have money for subscription, likewise money to pay for someone to teach me.
For years, it was just a wish for me to learn those things. Thank God for my sis that later bought laptop for me, which I now used to learn some years back. What of people who will never have anyone to buy laptops for them? I cried sometimes when I remember my wishing years, I would design several things on my head, it makes me really pity the youth.
I could do any job to get money to buy laptop, but no one to employ me then. This is the story of many youths and Nigerians, we are a very poor people, we can't afford basic needs and thus even our best of the best would have problems growing. You need to leave a stage to get to another, many people are stucked in a stage so they can't reach a higher stage

I can never blame any youth for laziness, the country is the problem. The youths and teens should have a place where they can work to save money first in order to start a business or learn a skill.

Some of us have consistently clamoured and still hammering this. That university education is not meant for every Tom, Dick and Harry. Imagine spending years to be graduates, yet one becomes confused afterwards. It is either the educatinal system is defective or the students are themselves confused. Our generations must be saved.

God have mercy oo. everything is becoming a joke. imagine a graduate can't find his or her bearing whereas others that learned trade or business are doing well. I think it's high time we understand Nigeria's educational system. We were trained as job seekers n not as job creators and until we understand that many courses are becoming obsolete in the 21st century,we won't go anywhere. The educational system needs an overhauling

You just hit the bull's-eye.

I had to go through what I typed again a couple of times to see if it warrants all of these insults.

I suggest you through yours too, this time around with your HQ.

May God bless the day when Nairalanders will be able to make their point without insults.

Who's talking about this year?

You probably didn't see the part where it was clearly stated that he graduated between 2011 and 2012. For 8years he kept on looking for job. I'm not better than him in anyway o, but I know even you - Lawyer Kunle with all your wisdom, you won't do that.

When you have a problem like that of OP, you try different options especially if you live in Nigeria. And you don't even know the first thing about me.

I hope one day you realize that there are ways of making your points without insults, instead of hiding behind your keyboard and typing bollocks!

That is what Fulani wants to achieve, they want to make every part of the country equal in education by bringing down other regions instead of stepping up.

Yes, Public Administration in addition.

To me, a guy studying Public Administration in a university is just doing it so he is called "a graduate". A guy should study a course that sells even in the midst of serious unemployment problems. Leave Pub Admin for ladies, they know their ways. undecided

Useless twàt. Most people don't even know why they have a certificate.

A certificate is not a passport to life in eldorado.

A certificate is simply a proof that you have attained a certain height. If the so-called ”height” is useless, then your knowledge is practically useless.

I mean, how can a human being living in Nigeria go to a university in NIGERIA to study political science? Political science in Nigeria of all places.

What exactly do you want to achieve with such useless and substandard knowledge?

Blame the system. Not the individual. Any right thinking human, after spending such funds for a University education expects ROI. This is a global practice. If the course is useless, then why is the University still offering them? In saner climes people sue their Universities if they feel their Universities have robbed them by offering irrelevant degrees.

Marry me please. cry You're very bright. I want that for my progeny.

People are too quick to label graduates lazy and compare them with the likes of Zuckerberg and co. People who already have their basic needs met. Something we can't say for the average Nigerian youth. Thank you for this sound perspective.

Nigeria graduates are something else, once they can't get a well paying job with their cert., they already termed it a waste.

Tertiary education is not for getting job alone! The only reason to term your education a waste, is if you do an introspection about yourself, and you found out you've not improved at all intellectually, and just the same as you were before gaining admission.

Then roast your certificate, or even flush it.
Best comment so far. No need enlightening these bands of folks.
