Back To School - Episode 1 - We Follow the Son

Our new series BACK TO SCHOOL goes beyond the anticipation to get schools to reopen and get academic work to continue as we still try to find our feet and the next step to take in the middle of this pandemic. This is God calling us to get back to school…get back to the basics and reminds us who Jesus is and why He is worth following. This series will take us through the book of Hebrew which was written to a group of Jewish Christians who were experiencing persecution. The struggle was so intense that many were thinking of abandoning Christianity to go back to the way things used to be. The author, however, urges them to continue in the faith. He wants them to go back to school and we are also inviting you to go Back to School with us as we recall the basics of our faith and why we follow the Son in this new series. This series is produced by our TC521 Community.

In tough times, we will hear the call that beckons us to go back to our old way of life.

Why Should We Follow the Son? Because:
1) Jesus is the One who proclaimed God’s truth. (Hebrews 1:1-2 CSB Mark 1:14-15). Jesus is the ultimate prophet in humanity. He not only tells us what God says, He also shows us what God requires us to do. Even when we couldn’t meet up to those requirements, He goes on to do that which is required of us. We are required to love sufficiently and absolutely, 100% of the time. But we cannot do it, so Jesus did it for us and His active obedience was attributed to us; that is called grace.
Jesus is the totality of everything that was communicated in the scriptures Jn 5:39. Jesus is the key that unlocks the understanding of the bible. He lives and demonstrates God’s truth Mark 1:14-15.

2) Jesus is the great High Priest who accomplished purification for our sins. (Hebrews 1:3).
Having a high and lofty view of God should be the core value of all Christians. The higher and greater we see God, the lesser we will be impressed with ourselves. That will in turn move us to desire to worship Him. Jesus is the definition and embodiment of who God is. Jesus sustains all things by His powerful word.
In the old testament, purification was based on the sacrifice of an unblemished lamb but in the new testament, purification is based on Jesus, the ultimate sacrificial lamb. Not only is He the sacrificial lamb that makes us clean, He is the high priest who went into the holy of holies with no sin to appear in the presence of God and we become purified because Jesus is pure and all the attributes of Jesus is transferred to us. It is ultimately about God’s presence as we can’t be Christians and go through life without the presence of God. So God has purified us through the blood of Jesus so we can always experience God’s presence.

- Forgiveness of sins means:
We are on a new exodus to the New Heavens and New Earth.
Because Jesus is the new Passover, the new high priest, the new temple. We are a new people of the new exodus; we are on a new journey.
We are enrolled in Jesus’ school of discipleship. (Luke 6:40)
It means we are learners and students. Luke 6:40. So we will be purified.

3) Jesus is the King who sits enthroned beside the majesty of God. (Hebrews 1:3)
Jesus is the prophet, the high priest and king. We have come to trust this by the sacrifices He has made for us.
