This is the problem I am having with Buhari lately. He is not saying much to show he recognises the need for vibrant and proactive solution-provisions, as a way forward for Nigeria , in todays world of Modern politics especially accounting for the democratic agitations of people power resounding loudly throughout the world today . He is displaying advanced age and lack of vigour with how his younger alter-ego (Ribadu) seems to speak while Buhari , as a potential opposition President in waiting,  says nothing about issues that matter. Buhari's fans on Nairaland will also lose him support with how they are ungracious towards Ribadu. Most of them hold this Mullah view of Buhari as a pure Northerner . Ribadu is somewhat "tainted" perhaps for having the backing of the "infidels" .  That is repellent in the Nigeria of today where , especially if you are a candidate from the North, you must win votes as a President all Nigerians can identify with. I supported Buhari before , as an alternative to Ribadu in the all-important quest to defeat the PDP,  but his fans on Nairaland and the silence of Buhari on certain issues just shows he may be out of touch with what must be done , in a modern democracy, even if his intentions are good.

Rbadu, Dabiri -Erewa Seek Evacuation of Nigerians from Libya
By Sunday Okobi

23 Feb 2011

Worried by the reports of repression of protesters by government forces in Libya leading to hundreds of deaths, the Nuhu Ribadu Campaign Organisation as well as the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, have called on the Federal Government to immediately evacuate Nigerians from the North African country.

A statement signed by Director, Media and Communications,,  Nuhu Ribadu Campaign Organisation, Ibrahim Modibbo, also asked the President to use his position as the chair of the Economic Committee of West African States (ECOWAS) to investigate the rumours of Chadian mercenaries being hired by the Libyan dictator to kill protester

Dabiri-Erewa, on her part, said in a statement Tuesday that “It will be unfortunate if the Federal Government does nothing to evacuate Nigerians and they are trapped in the repression of protesters that is going on in Libya”

The House Committee Chairman noted that many countries including the United States, France and Egypt have evacuated their nationals because of the deteriorating crisis in Libya, saying Nigeria has no reason not to do same.

“Even more worrisome is the report that security forces in Libya have resorted to the use of air strikes to suppress the demonstrations against Colonel Muammar Gadhafi. If the crisis has taken this dimension, then no Nigerian resident in Libya ought to remain as anybody, whether you are a demonstrator or not, could be hit in air strikes.

“Even if they are not hit in the air strikes, Libyans have never been known to have good relationship with Nigerians,” she said.
The opportunity of the crisis in Libya could be used by unscrupulous people to attack Nigerians”. Dabiri-Erewa asked the Federal Government to evacuate Nigerians from the “war zone”.

I supported Buhari also but as sophisticated voters , focused on getting the best leader for a very troubled nation , we must ask wether Buhari is still up to the task because lately , IMO , he has been a very poor opposition candidate in the mould of what was the norm in the past that enabled the PDP to do as they please for so long . Hopefully Bakare will fire up some revolutionary zeal in Buhari because , currently , it seems it is Buhari who is conspiring to concede this election to GEJ , IMO , and not Ribadu as some folks have posited. Why should it be Ribadu alone , like an aware Statesman , who has spoken about the need to proactively safegaurd the needs of Nigerians in Libya in an affair that is playing out on the worlds TV screens ? Why is it that , given how modern democracy is practiced , Ribadu is vocal while Buhari is taciturn?

GEJ, please do not mind them. Remember they rained curses on you when you ordered the evacuation of Nigerians of out Egypt?
