Why FG Shut Down All Refineries- NNPC by valentineuwakwe(m): 10:41am On Sep 10, 2020
The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mele Kyari, says the four oil refineries in the country have been shut down in Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna.

Kyari said this on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Wednesday.

He explained that all four refineries were functioning below capacity and it had thus become necessary to stop them from operating all together.

Responding to a question, the NNPC boss said, “First, all the four refineries in three locations are shut down and it was a deliberate decision for two reasons. One is that delivery of crude oil to these refineries is completely challenged because the pipeline network has been completely compromised by vandals and all kinds of people that will not allow us to operate these pipelines.

“That means you are not able to deliver crude oil to these refineries effectively to their maximum capacity. Secondly, what you call rehabilitation is different from the turn around maintenance. Turnaround is routine which every refinery does but when you talk about rehabilitation, it is that colossal loss of capacity in the refinery and it means you haven’t done the turnaround maintenance properly.

“Typically, every refinery is expected to operate at 90 per cent of its installed capacity. With the best of effort, with all the turnaround maintenance that has taken place, it is impossible to run any of the refineries before the shutdown at that level. Our estimate was to run it at 60 per cent of capacity but if you do that, all you are doing is value destruction. You will take $100 crude into the refinery and bring out $70 product. It doesn’t make sense.”

Because of unconscionable maintenance costs while nothing was being refined

If you think these old men called our government are ready to profer solutions to our problems, I pity you because you will grow old waiting.

The rot in the system is making them cash out in millions of dollars. They'll rather see it rot than fix it. Take for example, our power system, Universities, refineries, etc. Ask yourself, why does the private sector do well? Why are these smaller countries doing well?

If all Nigerians have the same mind like me, we will pick up gun and hit the streets in our millions, start shooting anything that looks like government officials. Enter their offices and bring them out, shoot them in public. Any police or army officials that will come to intervene, we shoot them also.

That's the only solution to our problems as it stand.

Nonsense and ingredients. The real reason refineries will never work in Nigeria is cos of d profiteering by d cabals when they import d finished fuel as most of them have strong stakes in refineries outside the country

F.G should commission Its Shares to the 36 Constitutional State Governments. They will jointly employ good ECONOMISTS, BUSINESS ENGINEERS AND CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS LIKE DANGOTE AND OTHERS TO RUN THE REFINERIES FOR NIGERIA. NIGERIA OWNS THE REFINERIES. THEY ARE NOT OWNED BY APC OR THE FULANIS.

EGYPT, ALGERIA, NIGER AND DANGOTE ARE BUILDING NEW REFINERIES AND ARE PLANNING TO USE NIGERIA AS A TRANSIT SHED TO SELL TO WEST AND SOUTH AFRICA.

What happens to the staff and their cronies collecting jumbo salaries without doing anything?
Hope they will be laid off. I doubt so because it's a Niger delta milking machine and every body is cashing out from NNPC.

Now you can imagine, was it not few months back that they flagged off laying of pipelines from Ajaokuta to Kaduna or so.

What then does APC want to Transport inside the pipes since all connecting ones have suddenly been vandalized.

This government keeps proving that they weren't ready and can never be ready for good governance. Smh!!!

You regime promised to revamp & build more refineries but as usual it was a monumental lie & scam.So why were the moribund refineries not privatized since they have become a conduit pipe for corruption? Simply because they are all benefitting from the corruption.

Exactly.

The main reason for d closure is simply because Dangote’s refinery will soon be ready.

These people are jus monopolizing everything in ds contraption to Dangote.

One man... producing the least things like salt, flour, sugar .... up to major stuffs like cement and now, fuel... For over 200 million people!

Na wâ o. This is our reality stated without emotions. This NNPC boss Kyari with his team, sounds like a real world business management set, IMHO.

Good luck.
