Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri has once again berated Nigerian youths for placing much attention on the ongoing Big Brother Naija reality TV show to the detriment of other important affairs.

Omokri took to his Twitter page on Sunday to lambast Nigerian youths stressing that poverty would reduce in Nigeria if youths invested more in rice venture than paying attention to the eviction of BBNaija housemates.

According to him, many have made millions buying rice from Kebbi and Jigawa and selling it in Lagos and Port Harcourt, adding that all what the youths in the South West can boast of at the moment is being up to date on BBNAIJA!

He wrote thus on Twitter; “The price of rice has increased by 60% since July when #BBNaija started. Many youths have made millions buying rice from Kebbi and Jigawa and selling it in Lagos and Port Harcourt. But, all you can boast of at that time is being up to date on BBN!

“You are so focused on who gets evicted from the #BBNaija house. If only you were as focused on getting poverty evicted from your life.

“For 2 months, you suspended your life to focus on BBN. Others used that time to suspend poverty from their life,” Omokri added.

What a stupid analysis. Has he done the statistics to know the percentage of youths who are watching the show? The show is just another package for those who love that aspect of entertainment, just as football is widely followed by sports lovers, and I don't think there is anybody who watches it for 24hrs each passing day without some other vital engagements as a distraction. Let him tell us how many youths in the USA, Europe, Australia, and Asia are into agriculture as a way of reducing poverty. Agriculture is good but if we've had effective governance over the years since independence, we'll not blame our poverty index on present day entertainment events like Bbnaija.

Do one need carry out an analysis to know the number of views the unproductive venture ganners? Reno stated the raw truth and i strongly believe that Banaija should be scrapped.

So when it's scrapped, it automatically will end all Nigeria's problems?

It will not end all Nigerian's problems. The problem of subtly selling porn to the youths and teenagers will end, the problem of misleading youths into thinking that all they see on bbnaija house is applicable to real life situations will stop, the problem of unproductive hours spent on watching the programme will end etc.

If you know the real sexual morality level of most Nigerians out there you will weep. All the holier than thou attitude is only a mask that covers terrible sexual behaviours in their private spaces, and that was not influenced by BBnaija. There are options to opt out of viewing the programme but Nigerians who want to still criticize it will criticize...meanwhile if u live in Europe or any advanced nation, u'll be surprised at the level of what u term immorality on the street, yet daily I see the holy Nigerians celebrate their migration to the same places they claim is morally bankrupt. We should leave this hypocrisy and focus on issues. I'm not holding brief for BBnaija, but I prefer issue based discussions.

What's the moral lesson of that BBA self?

I would rather count how many beans and garri left in the house than wasting my time watching semi porn show

They said some jobless Nigerian youths also watch them sleeping while they are awake

Granted. But where else in the world do u see porn broadcast live on satelite and national television stations.Teenegers are not yet equiped to handle sex which they are being bombarded with on the programme. Its implications are huge...

I don't watch bbn but honestly there is no iota of sense in what reno is saying, the government of today has failed in creating an enabaling environment for business to thrive. bbn is not the cause insecurity or high unemployment rates in country, farmers are always lamenting on poor support and funding from the government. honestly i think we should start facing the reality of issues in this country and stop blaming bbn for our misfortune..

Movies u say with parental gaudiance and age limits on it. Bbnaija is a family oriented programme targeted at the youths. Thats the difference. Most parents are not aware of the sexual part, hence kids are innocently allowed to watch it.

Omokri has a point here. I agree with him almost for first time. You can't compare Europe and America with Nigeria in this aspect, they are developed countries while Nigeria is still a developing country. In Europe and America, their fore-farthers had worked in the past for present generation to enjoy and even lavish on entertainment unlike Nigeria, where individual youth has to decide on chasing away poverty from his/her life because poverty was inherited and passed to present generation of Nigerian (majority).

If our fore-farthers failed to leave fortune for us as Nigerians, then youths must brace up to work harder than their fore fathers to terminate and chase away poverty in their lives and individual family instead of just wasting hours on useless ventures like Bbnaija, sport-betting, games, misuse of social media channels, adicted to movies, music especially when you know you won't end up in entertainment industries. You can't be having 2-million views in entertainment in just one hour while you have 50-views in 7-days on academic or educative resources; and think all is well with Nigeria youths

Go and do your research on our higher institutions of learning in Nigeria, collect labtops and phones of students and see for yourself. Most of the labtops that are expected of them to use for researches are seriously being misused. Many of them only use them to watch and download movies, play computer games, download and play music, and later come out to become incompetent in their respective fields of studies that later render them jobless, unemployable, incompetent and unskillful in needed and relevant areas that will put food on their future tables.

But, sadly, they will still come out to blame government in all areas of their life frustrations. Youths should remain focus and hard working, they should stop chasing irrelevant things while they have energy to work now to avoid future frustrations. Time is money, it has to be used wisely especially for youths. I think that is the message mr Omokri was trying to pass to youths irrespective of percentage of youths involved.
