Where We Come From And Where We Go, According To Humilism by JideMakinwa(m): 6:54pm On Sep 20, 2020
Many people can't seem to find it easy to let down the question of origin and of fate. Where did man come from? Where does a person go after they die? Clear answers to these are some of the things that make a person's religion or philosophy very comforting. It is therefore natural for one interested in Humilism to want to know what Humilism says about origins and fate, and possibly how they compare with other Faiths/Philosophies on the matter.

Humilism answers the question of origin the same way it answers a good number of other fundamental questions-: honestly. In honesty, we do not know our origins. Humilism doesn't teach that we are created by anything, as opposed to what people who read the doctrines taught to Children in Humilism think. The erroneous thinking comes from wrongly interpreting what the Creed tells children, that "Our maker manifested in our parents, our maker also manifests in us" to mean we were 'made' by some living agent. That is not what is implied there; in fact, the verse is talking about the force that compels our parents to procreate (to have made us) and the force that pushes us to do the same. But this explanation is not given much, so that people do not imagine wrongly. The Force we talk about here is an ever-acting Force whose nature is one of the Mysteries in Humilism, and you can say Humilism directly calls this force the Creator/Maker of Man. Interpreting it this way is consistent with Humilism's answer to purpose of a person. Every single person has been made by the force that has manifested in their parents to procreate. Any humble person therefore is expected to reckon with this Force that which did manifest in their parents) as their maker. The Force of Procreation is the creator of any human, and this itself is a Mystery.

The distinction between Humilism's idea of creator and the corresponding idea in some other philosophies/Faiths is that Maker (of man) in Humilism is not fused with Maker of other things, to form one giant maker. Perhaps, the question of grand maker is asked as "who caused the first force/first manifestation of the force of procreation ?" In Humilism, this is a mystery too. Who made the maker of the maker of........ These are mysteries in Humilism. All that is said is that we are made by the Force of Procreation as manifested by and in our parents. This puts the parents of a parent into the immediate focus, rather than abstracting away the parents and always thinking one has been made by some things one does not know. Summarily for the first question of origin, (and in children language), humans have been made by a force in their parents.

The question of Fate: what happens when a person dies? What is the fate of the race too? Humilism doesn't have a destination for a person. Fate is one of the Mysteries recognized in Humilism; it is very well captured in the clause "maybe you will ascend, maybe you will descend; maybe you will go forever into the silent nothing; maybe you will come back to reap or to repeat" that appears in many places in the Creed.

Whoever cannot keep a open mind to both Origin and Fate matters cannot cope with the demands of honesty that defines Humilism, neither can they enjoy the deep wonder and the magic that life is when you stick to honesty in such matters as Origin and Fate.

Feel free to knock.
