Some residents of Iwo community in Osun state on Thursday protested a petition written by a group of chiefs to the state government, asking for the removal of Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi. over alleged misconduct.

The PUNCH reports that the group, under the aegis of Concerned kingmakers of Iwoland, in a letter dated September 9, 2020, written to governor Adegboyega Oyetola, accused the monarch of engaging in acts not expected of a traditional ruler, including fights against some notable personalities within and outside his domain and his alleged concealed criminal past.

They also said Akanbi, after his coronation in 2016, declared himself as an “Emperor”, a title the kingmakers said is not known to Iwo history.

But in a video shared on social media, the protesting residents can be heard saying the Oluwo of Iwo delivered them from slavery.

The residents in there numbers urged and prayed that the monarch cannot be removed has he has done a lot for the betterment of the community and he cannot be removed.
According to some residents, since the installation of the present Oluwo of Iwo land, the community has been more peaceful.

Addressing the media, indigenes said they will go against those who seek the removal of their monarch and would not hesitate to place curses on such fellow.
“He cannot be removed, he cannot be removed,” they cried louder in support of the monarch.
