The Federal Government on Monday said its interventions in the rice value chain led to an increase in rice production in Nigeria by 1.2 million metric tonnes within three years.

Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mustapha Shehuri, said this while assessing the Federal Government rice farms/mills in Omor and Umerum at Ayamelum Local Government Area, Anambra State, under the Agricultural Transformation Agenda Support Programme-1.

Shehuri also stated that government would revitalise its rice farm in Anambra to boost rice production, create jobs and improve the living standard of people in the state and the region.

He was quoted in a statement issued in Abuja by the agriculture ministry’s Chief Information Officer, Ezeaja Ikemefuna, as saying, “The present administration has provided various interventions to promote investment in the rice sector.

“As a result of these interventions, the country has increased its production from 4.8 million metric tonnes of milled rice in 2015 to over six million metric tonnes by 2019 with huge reduction in the nation’s deficit.”

He said the government was also pursuing and implementing programmes to achieve self-sufficiency in rice production because of its strategic importance as a major staple food crop.

Even as rice scarcity bite harder.

A 4 litter bucket of garri now goes for 800 to 1000 naira from 300 naira before.

By now food use to be cheap do to new yam availability but the revers is the case as all food prices increase daily with speed.

Workers salaries remain the same o!

May God come to our rescue!

During the cold war, US strategists that were deployed to study and analyse Soviet propaganda used to rely on substitute facts to check on the veracity of the Communist party claims.

For example, if the Soviets came out to state that Steel production had risen by 150% - a direct attempt to lead the west to think their economy was booming and also a hint towards arms production expansion, the CIA analyst will just verify with the official Iron Ore mining statistics for the period and see if it collaborates with the finished steel output. Always it turned out that Iron ore mining reduced drastically and so the CIA analyst will just dust the Soviet claim as propaganda.

Same thing happening now with this rice b.s.

Other than serving as a propaganda ploy, these fake rice production figures are also a deliberate ploy to loot money.

How you may ask? Well it so happens that the FG through the Ministry of Agriculture under their grain storage programme, releases this fake figures so that they will later claim to have bought directly from farmers certain amounts of rice to be stored in FG Silos.

You go to those silos and there is not one speck of rice.

Maybe true. But because the borders upnorth are open and functional, middle men smuggle it out of the country to Niger and others with the collaboration of government agencies.
