Might have issues with President Buhari but one of the advantages of him not having any overlords or bosses, is that he can take decisive action.
Unbundling of the present structure of our regulators and NOC has been on the chopping block for more than 20 years.

Irony is that the executive's control of the legislature is going to work for our benefit now.

Before we get mad and political let us remember that our downstream sector is essentially dead, our upstream management is uncompetitive in a global sense and our infrastructure and new production need investment.

Making NNPC to function like a profit-minded firm that needs to perform or face scrutiny as well as clarifying regulatory bodies and their functions and the simplification of our tax/fiscal frameworks toward IOCs will get us to that 3m bopd we should have been doing since 2010.

Nigeria could also go from processing what 100 k bopd now to over 1.5 million a day by 2028... We would be looking at a surplus in USD not for only subsidy savings but also downstream local sales and possible exports.

Nigeria needs to answer its father's name and that is being a true OIL POWER in Africa. The gains will be monumental.

My only reservation is how involved the communities will be. I remember Rilwanu Lukam's proto-PIG bill had a 10 % or so stake for community's in their production. That will incentivize good behavior at the source. I hope that is still there...

First reading means nothing.

Ever bills passes the first reading easily.

The bill is still in the lower house(house of rep) after second and third reading, it goes to the upper chamber for another debate then sent to the presidency for signature

Since the bill is sponsored by the presidency, it will move fast throw the lower and upper house.
I thought the headline said that the bill was passed by the senators or is the house of senate also "Lower house"?

Let's check very well the terminologies and appendices to understand the changes the Northern Oligarchs were proposing like changing the host community to citizens and many other anticlimactic changes they intend to sway.

What is the true benefit of this bill?
the bill was modified and watered down to benefit the North, even though they don't produce oil since Buhari came. Its not the original bill or copy as proposed during GEJ time.
