OP got it wrong, Azikiwe was the Governor General but the actual number one man was the Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa. So his wife is the actual first lady not that of Azikiwe.

You see, I have taken inspiration from this...

If I ever make that office, then, I am going to be the first Nigerian president to have at least 6 official "first ladies"- one from each geopolitical zone to reflect "true Federalism". cool
No zone will be cheated or left out in order to prevent lopsidedness.

We have to be real Africans in all that we do. Starting with the position of "first lady".

No, the Governor General is the President although it is ceremonial.
But the highest office of the land as at that time was that of the Prime minister.
Azikiwe was only given that ceremonial position because his party NCPC formed a Coalition government with NPC.
