let’s begin with what a covenant is according to God. A covenant is, “A sacred agreement
between God and a person or group of people. God sets specific conditions, and He promises
to bless us as we obey those conditions. When we choose not to keep covenants, we cannot
receive the blessings, and in some instances we suffer a penalty as a consequence of our disobedience.”

When you are baptized, you covenant with God that you are willing to take upon yourself the name of Christ
and keep His commandments throughout your life...
And in return, God promises to
1. Grant you the companionship of the Holy Spirit
2. Forgive you of our sins
3. Let you come forth in the first resurrection.

But the baptism has to be valid, meaning it must be performed by one having the authority and not
just a pastor who decided to form his own church.
So back to your question, if you haven't entered into a covenant with God, you can't receive the
promises because God is just.

Why not do it simply because Jesus Christ did it, and nothing more? As long as you have a memory of it, isn't that all that really matters? Jesus Christ never engaged in any debates on the need or lack of baptism so anyone who claims to do it cannot them claim that Jesus Christ COMMANDED It it for He never did and so it is wrong to claim it essential... but one can do it because Jesus Christ also did it

It comes before salvation...
