Threads like these are laughable but they are sometimes worth responding to so that the younger generation can know how truly stupid topics like this are.

They said that Awolowo wanted secession clause put into the constitution of Nigeria and that even the North wanted secession.

But they want you to believe that Zik was so powerful that he could override Awolowo and the West, Ahmadu Bello and the North, and decide that there will be no session clause in the constitution of Nigeria.

Really? There were 3 Regions, the West under Awolowo, the East under Zik and the North under Ahmadu Bello. But they want everyone to believe that West and North wanted secession clause, but Zik and the East determined if there will be any secession clause? Lol

I thought by now people will start using their head to reason like human beings?

I’m confused as to why ?

First of all, you guys should stop this back and forth mockery that's put the Nation in trepidation.

Azikiwe was not talking to awo but the northern agitation.

I think you should have asked the people concerned. But the both of them are dead now. You can't be asking us about the political struggle of those two when most of us were not even conceived by then. Or you can alternatively go to their graves and ask them. They will answer you spiritually. As for us, what we know is that we must break away from this shit hole of a country as soon as possible. What zik and Awolowo discussed is none of our business.

What do you mean what they discussed isn't his business? That stupid action by Zik led us to where we are today. He had a lot of influence at that time as the Igbos were in a lot of strategic and dominant positions. Refusing to assent to the inclusion of the secession clause is not a historical reality you can wish away. He simply thought his people would continue to be relevant in the scheme of things. He was a man that lacked foresight.

Why would you not be confused since you have made Azikiwe a colonial master.

There are records to this fact so there's no point asking the dead. The OP is just confused as to why Zik would do that then, a clause that any smart thinking politician truly for his people could have ordinarily embraced.

Oh please spare me all that rubbish. What exactly did zik do that is worse than what Boko Haram, and herdsmen. Or was the actions of zik worse than what the cabals have done to Nigeria? These are the problems facing Nigeria today. These are the reasons why there are calls for succession everywhere.

Call it rubbish if you want. Your cabal-bokoharam analogy with the topic of discussion neither correlate nor makes sense. We are talking of regional state actors then having the leverage of choice to decide the future of their people in a Nigeria that had not experienced economic prosperity and oil bloom at the time. Zik was simply selfish.

It was a significant point in our history because all these Boko or Cabal talks you mentioned now wouldn't have been an issue. Any section would have just simply walked away constitutionally. The Civil War wouldn't have happened, 3million Igbo blood spilled and other Nigerians whom paid the ultimate price would have been needless. Healthy competition among the regions would have been the order of the day.

It was the best shot at deciding your future without bloodshed. By the time oil exploration began fully on commercial level during Gowon, that possibility died and we are yet to recover till date.

How did Zik fight Awo's proposed secession clause with all his might when Zik, like Awo and Bellow were under British colonists which made the final decision on the inclusion of secession clause?

seunmsg:

Azikiwe had this grand vision of a Nigeria that is dominated and controlled by the Igbos.

When Awolowo proposed the secession clause, Zik fought against it with all his might. Even the Fulani leader, Ahmodu Bello was in support of the clause. Zik went to Bello’s house late in the night to beg him not to support the secession clause. If Zik hadn’t opposed Awo’s proposal, Nigeria would have been history since. The western and eastern region would have seceded peacefully after the fraudulent 1964 general election and the bloody civil war wouldn’t have happened.

Don't get it wrong, it was Awolowo that wanted secession and the idea was supported by Bello but Zik lobbied Bello to support him rather than supporting Awo's idea. It is one thing to personally wants something and another thing to support an idea. Even in our present politics, we know that this type of game still play out and that is why no region can single handedly produce the nation's president without the help of another.
As for me, I believe in Nigeria with regional governments.
