The essential step for anyone who must come to the LORD God is to believe in the person of Jesus Christ, in all that He is and has done as Christ. To believe that He is the Divine Son, and that He is the Son of God sent from the Father to accomplish the salvation of all those who will believe with all their hearts.

But to believe with all your heart (genuine faith) is a whole lot different from mere intellectual belief (only based on head knowledge). The word “belief” in the Greek form actually means more than just knowing ABOUT something. It means to trust in, to cling to, to rely on, to adhere to, or to commit to. That's a huge difference. It’s a heart commitment. It's not enough to have a head knowledge about Jesus Christ and not have a heart commitment to Him. The devil himself has the faith of the head, but he hates the truth in his heart. The devil believes in God and the devil believes in Jesus. The devil knows Jesus Christ is the Son of God. That’s why he put Him on the cross to subvert His purpose, unwittingly doing the exact opposite. A faith based on intellectual belief cannot save; You may think you are saved simply because you believe the facts of the gospel, but Romans 10:9 says that without the heart commitment, your faith is not a saving faith at all. It's a dangerous thing to be stuck with a head-knowledge of God, and not have a personal, life changing experience of the heart.

God wants His truth not only in our heads, but also in our hearts. We may intellectually know that Jesus died for the sins of the world, but do we know in our hearts that He died to cleanse our sins and free us from the bondage of Sin? If we must experience the life changing power of the true gospel of Christ, it must begin in the heart; The greatest miracle in life is a transformed heart.
