The port link is actually between Onitsha port and Onne port. This barge going to Onne Port Rivers State from Onitsha Port Anambra State and vice versa.

Onitsha Port is linked to all the ports in Nigeria, it depends on wherever shipments are coming from.

Most cargoes are being diverted to Onne. Soon only SW goods will go to Lagos while SS, SE, NC, NE will come through Onne.

Point of correction, the concession process started under GEJ but Buhari came in and shut it down.

It was because of shipping companies started threatening to pull out of Lagos because of gridlock that Buhari finally gave in.

The desperation by some fellows to hail GeJ and vilify PMB couldn't get more ridiculous and shameless.

This brown water area is not a port. This is a way to ease things out but don't forget, it will cause serious damage to ships and containers in terms of pitting and corroding the metals those equipment are built with.



It is a good way forward but should not be surprised when ships that use this water have a higher maintenance cost for high body coating to prevent the water from damaging the ship.

Actually once the river is properly dredged, we can have large vessels berth directly at onitsha port.

It used to be that way during colonial times. I have seen old pictures.

NOT POSSIBLE with the location of the port.

Pillars at the 2nd Niger bridge is as high or even taller than the ones on the 1st Niger bridge. So any size of vessel or barge can pass there
