In pursuant of its industrialisation drive, the Akwa Ibom government is to establish a cluster of about 35 industries in the state. Consequently, the state government has demanded bilateral collaborations with international partners to explore frontiers of development in the aviation, tourism, agriculture and construction of an industrial estate.

Gov Udom Emmanuel gave the hint during a visit on him by the high commissioner of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to Nigeria, Mr Wendell De Landro, at Government House, Uyo, recently.

Emmanuel said that his administration was working out modalities of attracting more multinational companies to increase the tally of the 18 already existing industries to form the state industrial park, adding that the subsidiary services of the industries would boost ongoing negotiations for the commencement of a seaport as well as international flights operations at the Victor Attah International Airport.

The governor said that different aspects of construction in each of the proposed industries would require direct and indirect expert synergy from several countries, explaining that the projection of more industries was slowed down by the challenges of COVID-19 pandemic across nations. He announced that the sites of upcoming industries would undergo clearing from January next year, while the linking of 24 hours of electricity and water supply would pose less problems based on technical team reports, expressing delight that the industries attracted by his administration were operating at expected pace and capacity.

Emmanuel appreciated the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago for taking interest in the different areas of economic ventures in Akwa Ibom, pointing out that his administration has repositioned the state for the social convenience of international investors seeking to undertake collaborations in industrialization and other sectors of development.

The state chief executive officer told the envoy that the gateways of easy reach to Akwa Ibom by land, waterways and by air routes have been largely achieved by the construction of thoroughfares, while work was at advanced stage to inaugurate the smartest airport terminal building in the state, adding that the Ibom Airlines was set to commence international flights for passengers and cargo early 2022.

DeLandro said that the visit was to extend the appreciation of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on feats recorded by the Emmanuel-led administration in floating the Ibom Airlines, emphasising that there were strong desires by investors from the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to collaborate in developing aviation, tourism and agriculture.

The ambassador expressed delight that the expected international services of the Ibom Airlines would facilitate direct flight operations between Nigeria and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, assuring that further discussions with expatriate investors would be to encourage the establishment of an industrial estate in Akwa Ibom.

DeLandro stated that the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago have identifiable features in staple food and rich natural resources that are similar to the people of Akwa Ibom, noting that the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago have lots of professionals to help in the fast transforming Akwa Ibom to an industrial hub in the African continent.
