Most Indian students prioritize Australia when it comes to education. Australia is one of the top study countries in the world. If you are looking to settle down or study in Australia, here is an outline of what you need to do.
Get an admit from an Australian university
Just like getting your way into Canada, all you need is to prepare for exams like TOEFL, GRE, and IELTS. You will also need a statement of purpose (SOPs), and letter of recommendation (LORs), and essays. Make sure you collect information from various sources about the institution you applied to i.e. criteria, procedure, and eligibility. Don’t waste time sending in your application and be sure to have a valid passport.
Finance your education and get a student Visa
If your bank statement doesn’t show that you can finance yourself, you will not be considered for admission or scholarship. Based on your requirement and needs, you can apply for an unsecure or a secure education loan. Securing funds for your education is an important step.
You will also need to apply for a student visa before you can study in Australia. You need to meet the Australian student visa requirements stated by DIBP (Department of immigration and border protection). They include:
- English proficiency requirement
- Financial requirement
- Genuine temporary entrant (GTE) requirement
- Health and character requirement
Start working
The student visa allows international students to work full-time during holidays and 40 hours per time during the semester. There is no limit for internship or work during a course. This will boost your chance of getting a job opportunity.
Apply for a work visa
Australia holds a firm protocol against an automatic right to work after completing your study. Unlike other English-speaking countries, you are expected to leave when your course/program is completed and before your visa expires.
All you need to do to wave that is apply for work visas. Once you find a job that can keep you for long, apply for a visa 4&5 (skilled temporary graduate visa). You will be allowed to stay for 18 months and gain more work experience as an international student. However, this will only happen if you have completed at least 2 years of study in Australia and earn at least $53,900 per year.
Start planning for your permanent residency in Australia
To apply for this, you need to make sure your application, certificates, and employment status meet the required expectation. If you have lived a total of 2 years with enough work experience, you can apply for permanent residency through the DIBP SkillSelect migration program. This program might lead to permanent residency through a sponsored migration scheme, skilled independent visa, and employer nomination scheme.
