THE Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) Worldwide has commended President Muhammadu Buhari and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, for giving them the Onitsha Dry Sea Port in Anambra State which was first promised 42 years ago.

The OYC, in a statement jointly signed by its President General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and Secretary General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, described the development as a positive one in the right direction.

The Igbo youth group, which said it witnessed the flag-off of the Pilot Barge Operations from Onitsha River Port to Onne, thanked both President Buhari and Amaechi for the historic feat as it would enhance the economic growth of the region. The group noted that the number of heavy-duty trucks on the road would be minimized with the Onitsha port becoming operational.

He, therefore, called on Igbo businessmen to make adequate use of the Onne Port, as barge operators would convey containers to Onitsha port. The group also called on the Abia State government to liaise with the Federal Ministry of Transport to see how they can actualize commencement of operation in Owerrinta Dry Sea Port, Isiala Ngwa South, Abia State, for the benefit of Igbo businessmen residing in Aba and Owerri environs.

“We are aware that Abia State Government and Federal Ministry of Transport are in touch, and hopefully it will be another developmental stride of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government in the Southeast.”

Okechukwu isiguzoro doesn't represent ohaneze. He was sacked from ohaneze over 4 years ago and has been collect ingredients money from the FG to represent himself. Only Nnia Nwodo or Uche Okwukwu can speak for ohaneze.

Meanwhile, we cannot praise bubu, because he didn't create river Niger. The port was supposed to be there even since 1984. He is the one that should be apologising for failing to think since all these years.

There is no known organization like Ohaneze Youth Council (OYC).
Ohaneze Ndigbo has repeatedly said that organization neither exists nor expresses the views of Ohaneze as an organization or Ndigbo as a group.
Some newspapers will quickly run to the impostor Okechukwu Isiguzoro for comments just to create some sensation... knowing he doesn’t represent any known group.
The launch of the dry port is a good thing I believe and my clarification as per OYC has nothing to do with that development.

The images making rounds about barges conveying containers from onne to onitsha is false..

That badge comes from my community ..okpai in Ndokwa east local govt area of Delta State ..

Phase 2 of the project is ongoing ..

Now as a result of flood trailers can't come in to move equipments of various construction companies involve in the project after executing their contracts ..

What happens is for them to to use barges owned by oil companies in the area to move their equipments to onitsha which would take them less than 2 hours since it's a barge .


One can hit onitsha in less than 40 minutes on a smaller speed boat from my village depending on engine ..


As a result of the flood small boats are running aground with farm produce ..

For barges to start moving containers from onne to onitsha the river Niger has to be dredged first because some parts of that route is shallow most especially during the dry season .
