THE MAIDEN EDITION OF THE NURSS NATIONAL ESSAY COMPETITION

The competition held in the faculty of Law, Rivers State University.

The competition began with an opening speech, as well as an opening prayer by the chairman of the NURSS national working essay writing committee Comr. Ibifubara Briggs.

He began by appreciating the Sole sponsor, Hon. Rowland Sekibo for His continuous support for education within and outside Akuku-Toru LGA.

He stated that the committee recorded a total number of 220 students who applied for the contest which is very commendable.

He informed the contestants that following the submission, the scripts will be given to professionals ranging from a Professors, Barristers, writers and educationist go through all they have done I search for the best, after which, all contestants will be communicated.

The chairman informed the students of the need to put their intellect into action as only the best students will be rewarded.

He assured the students that as directed by the sole sponsor, Hon Rowland Sekibo, there will be no compromise is selecting the winners.

The National President, Comr. Zachariah Levi George also gave the students a brief exaltation.

He began by expressing his heartfelt gratitude on behalf of all Rivers students to the sole sponsor, Hon Rowland Sekibo for always making education a priority in his administration.

He noted that the sponsor has always carried out education-based projects in the local government and now he has decided to come to the state as well because his love for education knows no bounds.

He called on other LGA chairmen as well as stakeholders to render a helping hand to the union in future programs when the need arise.

The national president also assure the students and the general public that this administration will ensure that they continue coming up with series of impactful programs which will directly impact Rivers students.

He concluded by informing everyone that the process will be very credible as only those who qualify will be awarded.

The sponsor Hon Rowland Sekibo was represented by Comr. Asikitams Edward, the SA to the Akulga LGA Chairman also gave the contestants a brief word of encouragement.

He appreciated the sole sponsor for always putting education on his priority list and urged the contestants to put in their best in ensuring that they deliver creatively.

He concluded by urging students to utilize the opportunity very well and he aslo advice the organizers to be sincere in picking the best, promising that the Sponsor will equally help in ensuring that the best will be published.

The program continued as the students began to write a summary of the essay they had previously written.

This section lasted for about two hours during which the students were monitored as they wrote excellently.

After the contest, all participants were given a certificate of participation and a token to aide them in transporting themselves back to their various destinations

At the end of the competition, when an interview session was taken, the students during the interview gave thanks to God Almighty for sending a legend like Hon. Rowland Sekibo to them.

They also appreciated the Sole Sponsor for deeming it necessary to bring this idea to fusion.

Also present was the Rev. Don Kester, members of the Nigerian Red Cross, appointees of the Akuku-Toru LGA, amongst others.
