Every peaceful protest has a way of going violence whether by hoodlums or what have you.
Shops were looted by BLM protesters in the US. South Africans looted foreign shops whenever the go ballistic on foreigners.

Hoodlums didn't just hijack the protests, your government has just been shown that there is no monopoly to violence. Once they fully understand what that means, the peaceful protests will continue. For now, let them enjoy the violent one they triggered.
