Akwa Ibomites Lament High Rate Of Poverty & Retrogression, Says Udom Is Failure. by Nobody: 11:52am On Oct 25, 2020
*Akwa Ibomites Are Desperate And Angry Because Government Has Ruined Everything*
Increasingly, Akwa Ibomites are lamenting, complaining, angry and dying away because Government has irredeemably failed. The prevailing government induced blight is getting worse by the day. Yet, government appears not to be listening, giving the impression that Akwa Ibom lives do not matter except for the elite and privileged few.
Folks are flipping out everywhere, some are leaning on religion or crime for survival. They are now becoming more vocal, openly criticizing or cursing the government because they have been stretched to their limits and are desperate for survival.
With free falling socio-economic indices, a whirlwind of frustration and hopelessness is blowing across the oil rich State where all sectors are currently rundown. It has become an emergency situation escalated by fallouts from the COVID-19 pandemic. Akwa Ibom State needs help!
Yet, Government is trying hard to cover up realities of stark poverty and bad times in the land, always spinning wheels of propaganda in the face of acute misery and hopelessness. Of course, nobody is believing the Government anymore.
Folks now know that pathological liars and mediocres run the Akwa Ibom State Government Even worse is that most Akwa Ibomites, no matter their political affiliation or religion, have primed up to believe that nothing averagely good can come out of the present government. It is that bad!
Most residents, including many public officials, feel the pain. They are beyond frustrated and disappointed with the government. They are indignant and unwilling to endure this most incompetent and dubious Akwa Ibom State Government ever in history.
*Survival Mode*
Most residents, no matter their life stations, are now In the survival mode. Unlike during the Godswill Akpabio era, which is referred to as the glory days, businesses are struggling or crashing out. Only few dead end and temp jobs spring up to be swarmed, leaving the overwhelming number of youths and families with no source of income other than through begging.
Begging to survive is strange to Akwa Ibom culture. Scavenging from garbage heaps was never heard of among Akwa Ibomites known for cleanliness and hard work. But, these are the new normal that many Akwa Ibomites indulge because government cares less about them.
Drive around Uyo after sunset to see abandoned children, mentally challenged persons and some starving adults forced into that lifestyle. You will be indignant if truly a red blooded Akwa Ibom patriot. Only a callous government cares little or nothing about homeless minors and mentally challenged persons. Let us hope that another Garry Foxcroft does come around to document and negativily spotlight Akwa Ibom State across the world.
*Why Akwa Ibomites Are Angry*
The Government acts confused, withdrawn and disconnected from the people. There are too few jobs for five million folks in the State. Inflation is double digits. Healthcare delivery system is inferior and mismanaged. Public utilities are mostly not working or grossly erratic.
There is neither a good poverty alleviation program nor food security. Foodstuffs are mostly unaffordable by families who have no means of income. The agriculture sector is entirely subsistent and grossly mismanaged.
Some folks get promoted in the public service without corresponding salaries increase. Some folks are not paid gratuities and due benefits. Indigent students are abandoned as there are no bursaries nor scholarship grants. Public service and the education sector are a complete mess.
Most road projects embarked upon since over five years ago are either tearing apart, uncompleted or abandoned. Claims in a daily running catalogue of failed and abandoned projects cannot be refuted because the State is littered with shoddily executed and abandoned projects. There are no viable and impactful nvestments despite government claims of having the most number of foreign direct investors next to Lagos State and of massive industrialization.
The tourism sector is completely mangled due to mismanagement and bad politics. Now, it is nearly obliterated by the COVID-19 pandemic and resuscitation will be a great miracle.. Government appears incapable of reviving the sector that was prudently managed and booming during the Godswill Akpabio era.
Most projects and programs implementation are awkward and misprioritized. Despite public outrage, government goes ahead with multi-billion Naira projects that add no value to immediate needs and lives of the people.
Rural development is completely foreclosed because statutory allocations to local government council do not go to the grassroots. The legislature and judiciary are similarly shafted by the executive arm. Akwa Ibomites believe that government is grossly unaccountable, mean and corruption infested.
The trail blazing and positive record breaking profile of Akwa Ibom State is being deliberately destroyed. Now, the State is national worst in HIV/AIDS prevalence rate, has the second highest debt profile, has the second worst unemployment rate, in the nation, is in the worst third category of States depending on the Federal Government for survival, having a high rate of children dropout from schools and many other troubling records.
*The Way Forward*
Indignant Akwa Ibomites are justified and deserving of good governance by responsive government officials.
Therefore, government must listen and introspectively reconsider its ways, style and policies. As a first step towards rehabilitation, it must own up its weaknesses and failures while accepting that the peoples' voice often bears strength and reports with which to overcome looming problems.
Also, government must be humble enough to seek help from knowledgeable and patriotic citizens.including those in the Diaspora, who are great thinkers and are passion driven enough to chart the new way forward. There must be a new way forward lest Akwa Ibom falls and is unable to get up again.

My brother, not everyone with dissenting opinions is part of the system. Let's learn to tolerate others and their opinions without linking them to the government.

God bless you.

Let me write the realities for everyone as I won't speak to favour anyone.

The op' claim that projects take forever to be completed .True. Udom has been almost useless in completing projects on time.

Non promotion/payment of arrears and gratuity. True.

Poor healthcare. Lies .Udom has performed very well in that sector

Akwaibomites turning Scavengers. Lies. They are mostly Igbos. Say 98%

Stagnated Rural devt. Lies. Udom has developed the rural communities than Akpabio and Attah combined. N/b rural communities.

Akwaibomites turning beggers. Lies.

Out of school children. True. That's not limited to Udom, but Akoabio scored 100% in solving this particular problem. Akwaibom is now coming to see benefit of education, though Udom has reduced the tempo unlike what Akpabio did.

Unemployment. True. Though it's a Nigerian stuff, Udom has worked so hard to change the narrative, it might pay off in years to come. And has performed more than any governor in Aks.

Empowerment, Akpabio 100% Udom 50%. But lack of education made those boys Akpabio empowered to think it's government duty to be sharing money. They didn't even invest it.

Many youths curse Udom because he doesn't flaunt money like Akpabio did. They now have theis entitlement mentality that a governor suppose to drop money in every function he attends. Money they spend on betting and women.

Comparing Udom to Akpabio, I don't think that's necessary. Akpabio had taste and delivered quality but was wasteful. Udom doesn't have taste but he maintains quality. His works are long term.

My input. we need to massively educate our populace with quality education, it will definitely pay and should be priotized.

What Akwa Ibom need is industrialization. The state is peaceful and serene for business.
