They met in Aburi, Ghana. They discussed, agreed, signed the agreement, shook hands and returned to Nigeria Then Gowon realised that the document he signed had made Nigeria a confederation, which would prevent him and his fellow Northerners from taking political and economic control of Nigeria So Gowon went back on the agreement and Ojukwu went back on his promise not to secede if the agreement was implemented. Civil war followed and we are where we are today. |
