Can one serve god too much? Can one pray too much? Can one pay too much tithes? If god notices that one is serving him too much would he (god) intervene and ask the worshipper to take a break? Is there some kind of limit beyond which anything done to serve god becomes excessive and dangerous? Would god warn you when you have reached and exceeded that limit? Take the case of people who have damaged their health or even died fasting in a bid to serve god - did they overdo it? Or was their death a just reward for a prayerful servant of god? |

That sounds like outright foolishness to me. U don't necessarily have to fast beyond the level your body cannot withstand. |

@poster the way people fasted in the old tstament is diffrent from how it it in th nw testament. fasting is not a service to God. fasting makes it easy for you to hear God. its like cleaning your antenna so that you can receive clearer. that is why fasting without praying and reading the bible is like goring on hunger strike. 1 Like |

As long as the motives are right and it is God they are serving and not man (pastor), God refreshes his servants and renews them like the eagle. Yet, He has said it, but we receive only if we believe it. |

I suggest you go and complain to the trainers/employers of these models/athletes regarding their lifestyle: which is equally dangerous. there are rules for worshiping God; the rule for each of worship is from God. alone. you cant make it up. if you do, you have not worshiped at all. Allah says to the Messenger about his after midnight prayer, to not do it all night, part of the night, 50% a little less or a little more. we the followers of the prophet [as] are told that it is 1/3 of the night. the at one so that you could make your morning prayer in the same wake up period. in addition, we are given 5 daily prayers, at prescribed times. in between, you have your time to do things of life, including afternoon nap. and fasting is prescribed between before dawn and after sunset, in the month of ramadhan. the other fast, if obligatory will not be 1 full month long. while it is permissible to fast, there is no permissibility to fast all year round, or months without a break. when you are not even capable to fast in ramadhan, you can repat what you miss, before the next ramadhan. islam is easy. it permits marriage and forbids extremist in all its form while recommending moderation and middle course, alone. Allah does not make religion of Islam, the way to worship Him a burden on mankind. but a means of direct connection to Him, staying in remembrance, often returning to Him. prescribed charity has its ruling, too. |

But lack of wisdom that can result in such things No but one can have such result through the lack of wisdom. For example. Moses was over stretching himself and the people because he lacked the wisdom to delegate Would god warn you when you have reached and exceeded that limit? He sends his word. But later crooked Israelites turned fasting into an ticket to continue doing what is wrong, so that after they willfully committed crimes, they'll just go into hypocritical fasting thinking God must accept it anyway. So God sent his prophet to tell them that their fasting has become worthless before him, God made it clear to them that instead of willfully doing the wrong thing and covering it with their useless fasting, why not leave the fasting and do the right thing? For clearer understanding of God's word, imagine all those going to Church and Mosque today take righteousness as priority, No more lying to cover for evildoers. No more Support for fornicators and adulterers. No embezzlement in public offices. No bribery to overturn judgment. No more ignoring the needy in the society. No more oppression. No more nursing grudge and so on in our society. How will our society be like? Will people cry before God out of broken hearts? Of course crooked religionists will damn all that, they'll just go ahead to do what is evil due to their hearts desire and later their hypocritical fasting! Isaiah 58:1-10 Hence God's son said "if truthfully you feel like fasting, don't blow a trumpet before you or dress like a mourner for a showoff" Matthew 6:16 Trust me nobody will fast for any reason again if we're all righteously doing the needful! But those crooked religious leaders know what people want so they'll tell them "go on hunger strike (fasting) for days" because both the Pastor and the follower knew how evil they've been in their dealings with others!  |

ON FASTING The truth remains evident, we can't serve God enough for our dependency lie in Him. He doesn't stand to gain something if we serve or choose not to. Our service to God is for our own benefits. Thus He blesses us with freewill to always make a free choice. We could decide not to service Him and Perish. He says, l live you between good and evil, life and death, yet He encourages us to choose life (Cf. Deut. 30:15-19). So you can't serve God enough. As regards fasting, people tend to misunderstand what fasting is all about. Fasting goes with abstinence. You deprive yourself food in order to mortify your senses, for better service to God. People often miss the mark when it comes to fasting. Nothing says you must fast from food, nothing says you must fast when you are not strong. and nothing says you must fast until you cause yourself more harm than good. You could abstain from drink, if you drink often, you could abstain from sex, you could choose to wear little or no make up if you so much love make up. In this way, you mortify yourself, you cease to do or have what you love most for the sake of greater good. You don't need to fast all day long, causing harm to yourself. I really love Catholic teachinge on fasting, it states: a. You can only fast when you are 7 and above, 7 is often called age of reasoning, then one can make judgement about certain things. b. Fasting is not for the sick and nursing mothers. c. Instead of fasting to cause yourself harm, perhaps develop ulcer, abstain from certain things you love most. d. Those who are 65 years and above are not obliged to fast. e. When you fast and abstain from certain things, do charity. That is, if you used to drink 3 bottles of beer a day and you are abstaining from beer, give the money out to the needy, not keeping it to drink more bottles when you break your fast, and if you are fasting from food, no keep your morning food and add the afternoon food and consume it at the break of your fasting, eat moderately. Fasting is rather a way of mortification, which enables one seek mercy of God, while one hopes for more breakthroughs from God. It is not a punishment, and it is not to be done frowning. After all, no one is forcing you to fast. Even those pastors that often tell you fast and fast, they don't really do much of fast as they proposed. Be wise. LEOdeGreat. |
