She broke down, she hasn't seen her flow for a week and she had "weather for 2" with Uche 3wks ago...

Could she be....NO WAY!

She finally mustered courage and ran a pregnancy test, which came out NEGATIVE to her relief...


But this is a month plus now and still no period..."What is holding my period?" She thought aloud to herself...

After doing some scan and test, the doctor told her "Let's Talk PCOS"

What Is PCOS?
- PCOS stands for POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN SYNDROME

- It's a condition that affects a woman's reproductive hormones.

- The hormonal imbalance creates problems in the ovaries.

- The ovaries creates eggs that are released every month as part of the menstrual cycle...

But in a woman with PCOS, the eggs might not form at all or won't be released when it should causing missed period or irregular period.

This can cause infertility as the period is not regular making PCOS as one of the major causes of infertility in women.

Who Can Get PCOS?
- It's very common in women of reproductive age i.e (age 12 - 45yrs)

- It's very common and most women only find out when they see their doctors.

- One of the major causes of irregular menstruation.

Symptoms Of PCOS:

- IRREGULAR MENSTRUATION:
Women with PCOS may have very often menstrual flow,some may miss theirs while others don't even see at all.

- TOO MUCH HAIR
On the face and other parts of the body. This is called "Hairsutism" and it affects 70% of women with PCOS.

- PIMPLES
They have too many pimples on their face, chest and upper back

- WEIGHT GAIN
They gain a whole lot of weight that is very difficult to lose

- DIABETES
Some come down with high blood sugar called DIABETES

• What Causes PCOS
There is actually no known cause for now...

• Who Are At Risk Of PCOS?
- People that are obese
- People that has someone in the family that already has PCOS
- Women of reproductive age

• Does PCOS cause Infertility?
- It does if left "untreated", so once you notice any of the above signs, pls see your doctor.

• Can I Get Pregnant With PCOS?
- Yes you can , just make sure you see your doctor...

• Can It Be Treated?
- There is no known cure for PCOS now, it can only be "managed"
