It all depends on the effort you are going to put. For flight you can get a one way ticket if you don't intend to come back soon. It will be great if you have someone that can atleast pick you up from the airport. This person should be someone known to you very well. If he is someone you trust and can provide you with a room for $200/month or less then take it till you get to know around your way. Next get a job. Now this is the part most of our folks don't know that job aint a easy thing these days but however, if you cut your coat according to your size you will fit in. You can take some community college classes based on your interest and this will fast track you to employment and independence. However, knowing more about you will give better input from those experienced, like age, gender, level of education, etc. Then again how good are you at home if you are with a good salary and life I suggest you just come and get your PR card just in case PDP continues.

Welcome on board.
Land of the free, home of the brave but remember also land of unemployment and crime.
Hope u have something u can fall back on if it doesn't go well here?
Be hoping for the best but ready for the worst.
But does it really worth it? My answer is capital NO but who knows different strokes for different folks.
Another man food is another man poison.

I think that the issue of crime and unempolyment are major factors that are found every were, but the poster is trying to know how to adjust incase of his comin to America. There is one fact that we all know, America never be compared to Nigeria in any way all he has to know is that his mind set has to change about a lot of things and most of all is taking responsibilities of his actions and knowing that there is no free services in America like it is in Nigeria. And if he works hard sky will be his limit.

poster

you might want to visit first to get an idea of how things work before you pack your bags. Things might be a little difficult right now because of low employement rate new government that is not interested in taking care of the poor, gas prices is 665 naira per gallon ($4.30) in some places etc.

Though things are hard but they are getting better companies are starting to hire people again but food is more expensive than before and cheap apartment can mostly be found in areas with high crime rates. crimes from armed robbery, mugging, murder etc. anyway sha everyone has to start from somewhere and if God gave you the dv lotterythen he has a plan for you.

Don't let people dicourage you on taking decisions about what is best for you.Just have in mind that you are coming to the greatest country in the world and in other to excell you must be hard working and obeying the laws of the land,if you are lucky to have some education in Nigeria thats an advantage because you can upgrade your self here and get a good job and start your life, but you shouldw that it won't be easy and i know that you are determined to work hard. Pray that things will work out with your DV issues and the rest will be easier.
