The recent incident of the #LekkiShooting during the #EndSARS that led to wanton destruction of lives and properties in various parts of Nigeria has rekindled the call for regulation of social media in Nigeria to forestall fake news and false information that could bring a repeat of the ugly incident. This video enumerates the bill and the misconceptions regarding it.

No matter the coloration or publicity package given to the social media regulation bill, it cannot stand. Its passage into law will be a tool of oppression by the ruling party, elites and security agencies to suppress the truth and avoid criticism.

I do tell people that Nigeria is not ripe for such a law because it'll be abused. There are other laws that are on ground to address any lie, defamation or incitement spread on the social media.

Most of our elites and ruling parties may use it as an avenue to clamp down constructive criticism or diverging opinion.

Most advanced countries are liberal in social media while their laws punishes anyone who spread fake news or make inciting comments.

We won’t accept it however you present it. Even the devil won’t believe anything from Nigeria politicians

Have you imagined how much they may have spent on this trash just to make some gullible ones believe and endorse it?
