Do we need youths to have a better country?

Sadly, our current leaders started leading as youths.

Check their respective ages and subtract the last 20 years of democracy from it and let's see what we have.

Let's take Rotimi Amaechi for instance.

He is 55 now. He's 6 years into being a Minister. That means he became Minister at 49.

He was Governor for 8 years. That means he became Governor at 41. Prior that, he was Speaker for 8 years, that means he was Speaker at 33. Freaking 33! How more youthful can one be!

Do the maths for all of them and you will see that youth has brought us nothing.

Fashola is 57. He was in Tinubu's Cabinet.

Tinubu became Governor 21 years ago. Remove 21 from 57, that's 36. How youth can a youth be?

Wike is 53. He has been in power for the last 15/20 years. That's 33-35.

Dimeji Bankole was a freaking 37 as Speaker in the National Assembly.

Ahmed Lawan is 61. He has been in the assembly since 1999. That was 21 years ago at the age of 40.

Bukola Saraki. Femi Fani-Kayode. Yahaya Bello. All held prominent positions under 40 years.

See what we have. What did we gain?

We don't need the youths.
We need a change of mindset and attitude.

Both young and old.

Else, it's the same story.

Youths have always been in power!
They became old in power!

Yet we are here!

Let's ask for the right things.

youths doesnt just mean young persons but it actually means a change in generation, any person over say 50 is of the older generation, that generation is a very wicked, selfish and corrupt generation,i believe this present generation of those probably less than 40 are a new breed who will run Nigeria better, most have learnt from past mistakes

Quite frankly you've laid it all bare, the structure is defective. In the construction industry, once a foundation is defective, whatever comes on top of it is very well defective too. A shaky foundation brings about a messed up structure.

Let's ask for the right things.

If you want to know how a Nigerian youth will act as an elected leader, just check how he conducts himself as a WhatsApp group admin.

If anyone corrects him or has an opposing view, he flares up and threatens to remove the person.

Or maybe you want to check how SUG executives handle student funds in their care. Many of them end up being probed for corruption after their tenures.

I still insist that it is not a matter of age; rather, it is a matter of what you contain as a person. If you contain pride, arrogance and greed, you will always show yourself irrespective of the position you hold.

What we need are not necessarily young bloods, but upright, humane individuals that can help Nigeria to build a strong institution, an institution that gives no place for corruption or high handedness of public office holders.

Okonjo iweala, obi esekwesiki, Wole Soyinka, Femi Falana, are all part of that generation. Those guys can't be counted as wicked.

The solution is not necessarily an age thing; it is more of an institution thing.

Young student union executives are not different in behaviour to any of these people you call wicked.

YAHAYA Bello is a good example of youth failure as leaders

Let's just say we need positive people with good ideology.

The youth will be the driving force because our fathers will not come outside

What we need is essentially positive people with good ideology. The youth doesn't necessarily need to be in government to be a driving force.
