Dear LASG, Please Scrap The Lekki Toll Gate - Thank You! by Openbusiness: 6:16am On Nov 06, 2020
VI, Lekki axis is always a hell of a traffic, from Ozumba to Lekki 1, the traffic along that stretch and at the toll gate is a killer. Very bad for mental health, physical wellbeing and even bad for the cars. It is always a very big torture and everyone living around that area or that frequents that route can relate to what I'm saying.

Fast forward to the recent social crisis events, where "unfortunately" the toll gate got damaged and has been out of operations. Since normalcy returned, traffic in Lekki - VI route, areas around the toll gate HAVE DISAPPEARED. No more traffic. Anybody that has been passing that area can testify to this TRUTH. No exaggerations whatsoever.

This means it was the TOLLGATE causing the harrowing TRAFFIC all this while, something that was pretty much OBVIOUS even before the tollgate stopped working recently. So please the LASG should look at other ways they can generate revenue. Let's have FREEDOM of MOVEMENT. It is a constitutional right. Please don't let us be suffering UNNECESSARILY inside traffic and wasting away under the scorching sun, and being overstretched and overstressed daily, this hardship isn't good for our health. I know Sanwo Olu Government has a conscience and is concerned about making a difference about the well-being of Lagosians. Please do us this big favor and let's try another way of raising revenue without putting us in unwanted traffic.

God bless the LASG, God bless Governor Sanwo Olu, God bless Lagos and God bless America! cool

They can't accept that as a good reason to remove the tollgate. Perhaps it will be removed because of the massacre carried out there to enable them carry on with their collection job.

Go to Lekki na. From Ikate Elegushi Lekki to VI or VI to Lekki is now 5 minutes drive, instead of 2 hours before sad. Is that not good?

They didn't remove tollgate. What we mean is the toll gate is not OPERATIONAL. That is to say, cars are driving by freely without having to get stopped by the tollgate barriers for payment. There are 2 toll gates: 1 at Lekki Phase 1 round about and the 2nd one at Chevron / LCC / Eleganza . The 2nd one is not operational. Never was. The structure is there but you just drive through. Usually, 95% of the time, that toll gate is free. But the 1st one is operational, there's always traffic because of it. But since the crisis damaged the toll, and stopped their operations, the Lekki 1 axis has been free, it has turned to express way. So why bring back the traffic again? They can keep the structure, like Lekki 2 tollgate, it doesn't matter, but let the passage be unobstructed. Dazall cool

From lekki to banana island used to be about 45mins drive when the toll was there but now it is about 10min. A sane government would look for a way to make life easy for its citizens but our own governments never care about the well-being of its citizens. I pray God of Biden should look into our case too.

If you are sincere you'd have suggested how to generate the revenue gotten from that toll gate. The cash exchange system should be done away with n replaced with pre paid card\vouchers that will reduce the time spent by motorist in the road

Politicians that are driven by their greed. Right now they are still smarting over the loses of revenue from that toll. Your mental health is none of their business.

These politicians can kill everyone just to make money at all cost.

If you k ow how they are working to bring back the toll and all the permutations that Is going on as to his to restore the gate you go tire.

I hope they burn it down again within a day if the resume.

I'm sincere, 100%. That's why you can see where I wrote that the LASG should look for other ways they can generate that revenue shortfall. I have plenty ideas in my head. But the Govt has people they are paying plenty money to give them ideas. So let those guys brainstorm for them. I can't be brainstorming for govt FOC. I have ideas that can generate 100 trillion for LASG in the Lagos without having to choke the city with unbearable hardship and inconveniences.

SO because they want to generate revenue they should suggest people to untold hardship. Smh, una too like to enjoy hardship. You should have started with the legality of the toll gate first, by discussing the cost of construction, loan acquired, loan repayment conditions, tenure of repayment, amount paid so far, balance yet to be paid, than continue the defensive that government needs to make money. No government out of the need to make money in modern times instills strong hardship on its people.

Tinubu is not an enemy of Lagos, contrary to the opinion of those trying to demonize him on social media. Tinubu will never oppose any plans that brings about a BETTER LAGOS. Lagos politics is intricate so not everyone will understand it. But right now the LASG needs better ideas, that's all. And the Tinubu led Lagos governing council needs better ideas too. All of them want Lagos to progress. So there can't be war. Yes they want some gains too, but that's the political aspect and it is the same with all politicians across all states Nigeria. It is not a Tinubu thing. They all have vested interests in their States or Federal jurisdictions.
