Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi on Sunday said governors are under-utilising traditional rulers in the country by ignoring them and only paying them visits during election period to solicit their supports.

The monarch, who made the remark at the meeting between South West leaders in Lagos to proffer solution to the #EndSARS protests mayhem, said meetings between governors and traditional rulers should happen regularly.

Ooni who said traditional rulers are not in competition with state governors said the traditional rulers as custodians of culture and traditions have crucial roles to play in the running of governance in the country and should be carried along.

“The governors have taken the right steps with this meeting".

"However, they have been far away from us, the monarchs. You should not wait till election period before you reach out to us”.

“This type of meeting should come regularly. We know the good and the bad in our communities but we are under-utilised”.

Some of the traditional rulers have sold their birth right to the politicians, so there is no authority in the palace anymore.

So?

Does that change the fact that they are closer to their subjects and know their subjects more than the politicians do?

Maybe you're referring to traditional rulers of the 80's, they are not close to anybody, anymore

They are still closer, 80s or 20s. They still have chiefs reporting to them

Mtchew! Free yourself from mental slavery... what about the people who collected Oba of Lagos' staff, swam in hos pool, wore his clothes and sat on his stool? It is only God who can bless and/or curse.
Besides, I am sure you might have never seen the kabiyesi reading a speech. I have!
