This subject of weather a Christian should take anything alcoholic has been a controversial one. But, does the Bible really forbid it. Where in the New Testament are Christians forbidden to take alcohol? I mentioned the New Testament because it is our present constitution.

We should remember that Jesus turned water into wine. And it is implied that the wine is alcoholic.

John 2:9-10
9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knewwink the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,

10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.

The ruler said that the worse wine only is provided after men are well drunk. But Jesus brought the best wine ahead. It means the wine could intoxicate.

However, you have to be careful the way you exercise your liberty so as not to cause a weak brother to stumble. I don't by habit drink alcoholic drinks but I don't condemn those who do provided you don't get drunk and you don't sit down with drunkards to take yours.

What the Scripture cautious against is excess of wine.

Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.

1 Timothy 3:8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre.

The verses above didn't say, don't drink wine. It says, don't take it in excess.

Our Lord Jesus drank wine in his days. Hence he was accused of being a wine bibber.

Matthew 11:19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

There is no way they could have accused him of being a wine bibber if he didn't drink wine frequently.

Please if you have contrary opinion on this, no insult. Buttress your point with scriptures especially from the New Testament.

No! No! No!

Never be deceived to take strong wine or Alcohol.

Drinking a little to avoid drunkenness is like tempting the devil. By the time you know it , you would have become a drunkard. Oh! Yes it has happened before, a young undergraduate called his dad that he wanted to take a little alcohol in the university standing on devil's lame excuse of drinking a little, the Dad consented to the idea but unfortunately, the guy became a drunkard and his grades in the school went down drastically, he became dull. Alcohol destroyed his bright future.

Paul said take a little wine . WINE?

Which WINE? Was it alcoholic or fruit wine?

Not all wine contain alcohol but all alcoholic drinks can destroy your live.

Let's be careful.

Solomon was so rich to know more about drinks,
Solomon said; give strong wine to him who is ready to perish.
Solomon said; wine is a mocker and anyone who is deceived by it is not wise.

God bless us.

Alcohol is alcohol! There is no strong alcohol or weak alcohol... there is just your tolerance of it.

Questions you need to resolve in your mind there. Is it Paul or Solomon that you worship? Or is it God? In the Old Covenant, God never barred you from drinking Alcohol. He went as far as to even say you could buy alcohol with money from your tithe and drink and eat in front of Him. The Son of God, Jesus Christ, came down from Heaven and He showed you through His(God's) example that it is ok to drink alcohol. Instead of accepting these teachings, you run to the words of ordinary men like Paul and Solomon for your wisdom, against God's own word. Are you sure it is God that you serve at all? undecided

Renew your mind. You are responding based on what you have been taught. I quoted a few Scripture that only caution us on taking wine in excess. It never condemn it.

I proved to you that even our Lord Jesus took wine to the extent they called him a wine bibber.

Use Scripture to buttress your point. Solomon spoke his mind. It wasn't an instruction from God.

Go and teach your brethren in Deeperlife, Redeem, The Apostolic, CAC, Chosen and a host of others, they've been pointing accusing fingers towards Jehovah's Witnesses for ages over our moderate use of alcoholic beverages! smiley
