He is not defecting because he wants to be president, after all even if APC zone their ticket to South East he will not even emerge number 4 position. But his defection is selflessness to his people not about him. How can a particular region be so royal to one particular party for over 20 years but the party can't consider them good enough for the president. Any South easterner who is against this decision is Efulefu, the person will be comfortable in perpetual slavery.

Maybe they begging him not to defect with the senators and the house of rep members, because it's obvious that for personal reason(s) , Umahi has made up his mind. Even if he doesn't get the presidential or VP ticket as some claim that's what he's aspiring for, at least he can still be politically relevant being the biggest APC man in his state. Remaining in PDP, the best he can get is one tenure in the senate as South East are not known to entertain 'Godfatherism' from past governors, the new governor will like to cut him off ASAP.
