For several decades, Muslim apologists like Zakir Naik and the late Ahmad Deedat claimed that scientists with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have found evidence to support the claim that muhammad split the moon in half.

A Muslim wrote to NASA back in 2009 to enquire about this "miracle" and this was the reply given to him by NASA:

It is lie of Islam. If it ever happened people would know.even if the present Moon was to be cut into two without any instruments, it would be noticeable. Imagine you waking up tomorrow to notice the moon has reduce from its present size to that of an apple. It will be noticed all over the world. One possible scientific reason for a reduction in size is if either the earth or the moon drifts further apart by at least an equal distance more than where they are now. Besides, the Babylonians and Persians have great documents of the performances of heavenly bodies about five planets : Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and certain constellations in their zoadic signs for divination almost two or more millennia before Jesus or better still Prophet Mohammad (SAW). Great records if you study Assyriology.
Miracles are special acts of God and the strangeness should be credibly historical. I don't criticize Mohammad (SAW) being a prophet,. But quoting one hadith of someone hearing another by another on authority of another can damage good intentions. If asked a Muslim to point this out in Quran, I doubt if it is there.
