I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. —1 Timothy 2:1-4


In the time in which Paul wrote, most countries had kings for leaders. Today's equivalent in our country would be our President. Paul then said, "for all that are in authority" (v. 2). That means all our leaders—congressmen, senators, governors, mayors—all who are in authority. It even includes policemen.

I wish more and more Christians will take heed to this and do what the scriptures admonishes instead of joining the crowd to complain and criticize. There is power in obeying God's Word especially when we do it together as the body of Christ.

We should be praying for them

In addition, we must do something very important at this time, for the police.

We all want a reformed police men and women in Nigeria. But before that is actually a reality, we the Nigerians should come together to constitute a kind of solidarity group that will give our policing institutions moral boost.

We need to close the gap that divides the people and security agents. We need to make a conscious move to cement our relationship as Nigerian youths, with the police and the others.

This vision needs be shared only among great minds that can perceive matters based on foresight.
