ONE OF THE FACTORS THAT DETERMINE THE SUCCESS OF YOUR FARM IS HOUSINGS *hutches*
1. Size of the hutch is very important. Rabbits are usually Territorian when they are matured usually 1 in a rooms..
They can be together at weaners and growers stage Size of hutch is very important has it have effect on the production.
A compartment usually 24 inches wide, 24 inches breadth , and 16 to 18 inches high ( 24-by-24-by-16)inches
Or 2ft by 2ft by 16 inches
This size can house a breeding doe and kitts.. You can increase the size base on your preference but shouldn't be lesser
*TWO TYPES OF FLOORS ARE USED IN HUTCHES*

� *Wire-mesh floors* are used extensively where a self-cleaning cage is desired. They are a necessity in commercial farm, because it's not labor intensive unlike solid floors which you have to wash and clean everyday
� *Solid floor* : concrete or plank are use as floor of cage. This types of floors is a old method. There is need for daily cleaning. Washing of each compartment daily its labor intensive. And some hidden poo are usually serve as breeding room for infections
The floor should be net based care must be taken when selecting base net
*Galvanized ½by½net of 1.2 or 1.5 Guage* is suitable for rabbit base net
½by½net wire that will prevent small kits that escape the nest box from passing through and away from the safety of the hutch and mother.
� Do not use bokoharam net for the floors, because it rust within short periods of time and also leads to sore hocks and other sores on the feet of rabbits, leading to infections and eventual production losses.

*ARRANGEMENTS OF THE HUTCH*

Whether you arrange the hutches in single, double, or triple tiers depends. On the farm capacity and available land
*Triple tiers* is suitable to fully utilize a small piece of land for rabbit production. In situations where there is no much space, triple tiers are very effective in managing space
*The following must be put into consideration while constructing triple tiers.*

1. waste management. :ability to collect waste from each step without falling on the step beneath it. There some cage where waste urine and poo � from step 1 will be falling on step 2 which later lead to poor hygiene and breeding room for infection. Proper waste management must be put in place while constructing triple tiers
2. *easy access to each compartment* : the height must be reasonable, some 3 tiers that are not constructed well may be too high for farmers to reach the top tiers. which reduce intensity of the management. A Well constructed 3 tiers you don't need a ladder to reach the top tiers..

The rabbit hutch should not be placed where there is direct sunlight. There should be provisions for shelter, as heat do affects the growth and reproduction of rabbit

*THE FOLLOWING ARE CHARACTERISTICS OF GOOD CAGE*
1. A GOOD HOUSING : must protect you rabbit from harsh weather. Either heat or cold.
2. Protect your rabbit from predators. Like snake, rat, cat. There are many occasions where farmers lament on rabbit groups over invasion of farmers by predator.. Definitely something is wrong with such housings..
Of what benefits raising rabbit for predators.?it's important get a good housing that can protect your rabbit from predators
3. Waste management. A good cage must be self cleaning. Meaning it must allow easy dropping of rabbit poo and urine. This prevent rabbit coming in contact with there urine or poo, Like i do say.. If you are dirty type don't bother go in to rabbit farming.. Rabbit farming requires high level of hygiene to avoid unnecessary sickness
4. Size : the size of each rooms must be big enough to allow easy movement accommodate cage equipment like feeder, drinker, nestbox
5. Easy access.. There must be easy access to all compartment and easy movement for the farmers too
*CAGE EQUIPMENT*
DRINKER : are container of water to rabbit.. Its wrong practice to assume rabbit don't drink water. Just like we assume back then .. Water is very important in growth and productivity of rabbit.. As shortage of water for pregnant rabbit may prone it to cannibalism
*There are two type of drinker*
1. open drinkers
2. Automatic water system.
1. Open drinkers are the concrete, wooden, plastic containers use to supply water to rabbit
2. Automatic water are used to reduce the labour intensity in managing a large farm.. It can be a hose type or pipe type. It supply water 24/7 so far there is water in the tank
*Feeder* :
*Open feeder* and *Jfeeder*
Open feeder are usually made or concrete, wood and ceramic
One of the challenges in rabbit farming is feed wastage by rabbit due to poor feeder
Edges of a good feeder, must be bent inwardly to prevent feed wastage
*Jfeeder* are usually used with galvanized cage
