What are some of the reasons why people are corrupt?

1. The nature of man. We are born into this world with a sinful nature. So, there is every tendency for people to be corrupt. It's in the blood. Though their are very few exceptions to this fact.

2. Orientation. A lot of people are given an orientation of corruption. You do what you observe others doing unless you have a different up bringing. This is the system we find in most sectors of the economy. As the saying goes, 'if you can't beat them, join them.

3. Parents don't teach children the ways of God. Most parents themselves are corrupt. The few that are not neglect that training which the Scripture commands - Proverbs 22:6 says. "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

4. Greed. Their are people that are never satisfied with what they have. So they do whatever they can to get more. These describes most of our politicians.

5. No judgment. When evil is not punished, people are encouraged to continue.

We celebrate corrupt politicians in this country rather than making them accountable for their corrupt actions. It shouldn't be.

6. No fear of God. The Bible says in Proverbs 1:7 that the fear of the LORD is thebeginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. There are consequences for every action we take, whether good or bad. And God will judge everyone's work. All corrupt persons will go to hell. Even stealing 10 naira can take you to hell except you repent of it.

So, every corrupt act is in exchange for your souls. It is very foolish to mortgage your eternal life for a momentary gain on earth.

7. Influence of bad friends. The Bible says that evil communication corrupt good manners - 1st Corinthians 15:33. Avoid wrong friends if you don't want to be corrupt.

8. Frustration. You are out of school and you don't have a job after searching for years. This can tempt someone to do whatever he can to survive. This is the reason for armed robbery and ritual killings.

9. Laziness. Some people are very lazy. They don't want to work. They are looking for short cut to wealth like the Yahoo boys.

The bottom line is that it's a wrong way to live your life. You are a failure if the wealth you amass on earth is through corrupt means because their are consequences. The Scripture says that God is not mocked. Whatever a man sow, that shall he also reap.

Follow the path of righteousness. Embrace Christ who will give you the ability to live right.

The church should use their pulpit to talk about this from time to time. Those caught in the act of corruption should be punished for it.

In the next election, don't collect any money to vote any candidate into office. They will turn back and oppress you. Let's vote men of honest heart and good track record. We should be tired of what is happening to us as a nation.

There are still honest people in Nigeria. Though they are relatively few.

So what are you trying to say? End corruption in Nigeria?(I laugh in Japanese) Corruption can't be ended. Doing what is right will minimise it.

I agree with you. You can't end corruption anywhere but it can be minimized. How can we minimize it?

1. Pastors should talk about it.
2. Those found guilty of corrupt practices should be punished.
3. We should teach our children to shun corruption.
4. It should be part of moral education in our schools.
5. Avenues should be created to report corruption. For instance, the IG of police should give a number for people to call to report any policeman that attempts to extort you. Students should be given a number to report any invigilator that demands money during exams etc.
