Why do Nigerians love excuses like this?? Yes I agree with you but there is no way they can hav3 an entire grip of every level of leadership of the entire country..... at the federal level they may be recycled but at the governorship state house of assembly and lga levels they maybe recycled but the entire system can't be full of onlyvrecyvled politicians - that's crossing into excuse territory

Sars and police aren't recycled

Am not too sure what excuses u are referring to & what excuses have got to do with what we are talking about. Am also not sure whether u did a research on 200m nigerians to have arrived at ur conclusion as to d extent nigerians love excuses or don't love excuses.

I used two words in my comments, recycled and groomed& I gave d reason for both. When u get into d police force, are u not going to be groomed to behave like d police? Y do u think that grooming is necessary?

Good suggestion, I will suggest it should be done weekly and not monthly.
Re: Judges Should Inspect Police Stations & Detention Centers Monthly - Falana by Litmus: 4:40pm On Nov 16, 2020
Good idea. We know what to do in Nigeria but we are not organised and we are not disciplined or persevering. Nigerians are overall a tolerant lot if a little moany, so it should be easy to satisfy them. Governing Nigeria and providing the bare minimum such as running water, paved roads, electricity and security is not difficult. Our politicians simply don’t know how to go about doing so, they are not wicked. Their fight to govern or hold on to power is sometimes informed by brutality, skulduggery and such, yes. They’re lazy, unimaginative and novices in the act of governing, which is why we need institutions to teach how to govern. I’ve always wondered why Nations requires of individuals in the society all sorts of paper qualifications to prove their competence in vital professions such as medicine, endangering architecture, pluming, gas fitting, electronics but requires no form of professional qualification to lead a country.

All you need is a national data base that is diarised. So that at anytime you the total number of detainees, their indentities and how long they have been in detention.

Monthly is not good enough daily and unaware of time of inspection. There should be camera in all police station.

Throwback:

Exactly!

This should be done impromptu without any warning or notification.

If more people exist in the cells more than the docking record, the DPO should be sacked.

Any police station found wanting for holding a suspect beyond the stipulated 24hours without bail or court charge, should have the arresting officer and DPO sacked and prosecuted.

While every police officer who was on duty during the period of the wrongful incarceration, should have half their salary for same period deducted and paid as compensation to the victims.

1 cold Origin for u...

Rugaria:
Good idea, but the DPOs and wardens will always hide their victims once the appointment is booked.. During the ENDSARS protests, the governor visited Awkuzu SARS and only saw about 2 or 3 detainees. Do you need anybody to tell you that like a hyena running away with it's kill, the officers have hidden the main detainees elsewhere?

Yes that's true but the meeting can be made without appointment ( no fixed time )

And secondly each state government or AG can make the office of the visiting magistrate a place where you can report any police station detaining anybody more than 48hrs without charging to court. And the magistrate can then go and free the person and charge the DPO to court or to be disciplined by a committee set up for that

There are ways to stop these nonsense if we are willing.

I concur to what you have enumerated. Society is not built on law and order but the integrity and character of the inhabitants

GeoAfrikana:
Nice talk. However, there's a limit to which you can monitor humans. As long as people are corrupt and irresponsible they'll always find a way around any law or policy.

We need to build a society and mentality that puts common good before individual and personal benefits. Until we have this mentality, there's no way forward in this country.

Many people only complain of corruption when they're on the negative end. Put a typical Nigerian in a position to enjoy corrupt funds and watch him/her give a thousand and one reasons why his/her holy book doesn't count that as a bad deed.

Funny enough, everyone seems to enjoy pointing fingers at others while perpetrating great evils in private.

True
The judges are the ones who send people there monthly. In a sane clime the burden ought to be on their conscience to at least appreciate the condition of the place they send these people. Moreso, the prisons fall within their duty not just wearing wig
Nice one baba folarin
