Then you chase the rich away, it is as simple as that. The US and other western countries tried this, and they have their rich moving to tax haven countries. The fact that they would be super-wealthy people is a fact of life, in economics, this is known as ''Pareto principle'' or the 80/20 rule. Biblically, known as the Matthew principle.

Matthew 25:29, RSV. I tell you, that to everyone who has will more be given; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.

This is one of the most appealing statement to the poor even before Karl Max by the plutocrats. Unfortunately the rich do not pay tax. Most of the expenditures of the rich are borne by the organization eg free air ticket, free housing, free hospital bills, meal subsidies, communication allowances to mention just a few. Whatever organizational profit that is taxed, have little effect on them. Taxation of the rich is transfered to the poor who form the bulk of the consumers. A 10% tax on the rich, have less efect on them than a 1% tax on the poor. Because there are more poor people, the government gain more from the 1% on the masses than the 10% on the few rich people. Its better they leave the rich alone and empower the poor by entrepreneurial development and improving access to low or interest free loans

This does not make sense.

This same man calling to tax the super rich also have hiden offshore accounts outside Nigeria.

The same man use loopholes in the tax laws to pay very little tax.

So i don't understand what he is talking about
Wired $40 million dollars through offshore companies to America and collected $2million dollar bribe from Siemens through his wife account.

[quote author=drinoayo post=96317282]Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Sunday urged the Federal Government to increase taxes on the super-rich in order to raise government income as the county slides into recession, Igbere TV reports.

Atiku tweeted his idea of how Nigeria could survive recession after the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announced on Saturday that the nation’s GDP contracted by 3.62 per cent in the third quarter of 2020, better than its 6.10 per cent contraction in the second quarter.

Atiku said the recession could have been avoided if the Buhari administration had listened to him and others.

He called on the government to first of all scrap the 2021 budget, saying it “is no longer tenable.”

On how to fund the stimulus package, Igbere TV reports that Atiku suggested that a luxury tax be placed on goods and services accessible only to the extremely wealthy individuals.

The former presidential candidate also proposed a one per cent poverty alleviation tax to be legislated by the National Assembly on the profits of every international oil company and airlines operating in Nigeria, which should also go towards the Poverty Eradication Fund.[/quote

The northern politicians will definitely go against this as usual...most of the less privileged in the north dont have bank accounts...their leaders prefer cash so as to loot!

North and illiteracy

Using total bank deposits as a yardstick for poverty is questionable.

Not depositing money in the bank and being poor are two very different things. People can decide not to deposit their cash in banks for an avalanche of reasons; doesn’t necessarily mean they are poor.
