Hi guys, trust you had a great weekend. There are several interesting events lined up this week in the African tech scene. However, most of them will still hold virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We have curated a list of some major virtual events. They come up between November 23 – 28, 2020.

AI @SCALE 2020
On Monday, experts from big tech like Facebook and Microsft will be coming together in this year AI@Scale to solve machine learning scaling problems.

During the event, engineers will discuss different topics including latency improvements for training workflows; how to improve the resiliency of ML training; improving the developer experience for ML engineers; and scaling, sustaining model quality, machine efficiency, among others.

The conference will feature Anand Raman from Microsoft, David Chung & Qiao Yang from Facebook among others.

African Women in Media Conference
This week, the 2020 African Women in Media Conference (AWiM2020) will be starting virtually. The event will bring together women in media, policymakers, academia and CSOs involved in women’s rights across Africa.

The virtual conference will last for two weeks and will consist of a mix of pre-recorded content, the AWiMPitch Zone and a one-day live conference on 7 Dec 2020.


This year the Pitch Zone will allow attendees to pitch story ideas to five categories. The winning pitches will receive $2,000 to produce their story. The categories include Green transition and energy access, Digital transformation, Sustainable growth and jobs, Peace and governance, and finally Migration and mobility.

The event will also include speakers like Gladness Munuo- Migration and mobility issues in Tanzania, Rosemary Okello- Voices of African migrants among others.

FoodTechExpo 2020
Starting from Monday, the FoodtecExpo2020 will hold virtually- The event will feature over 100+exhibitions from Africa, India and other countries.

The event is supported by the Kenyan government to bring together buyers and sellers from all over the world.

Digital Energy Festival
On Tuesday, the Digital African Utility Week and POWERGEN Africa will be held as part of the Digital Energy Festival. During the festival, new growth opportunities in Africa will be discovered as experts Joining forces with Africa Energy Forum and the Oil & Gas Council.


The events will also help energy companies to compare their product and service with international competitors, gain insights and market intelligence as well as develop a first-hand understanding of the opportunities and challenges of doing business in foreign markets.

Entrepreneurs Network Virtual series
On Wednesday, Entrepreneurs Network will hold a networking meeting with entrepreneurs, business leaders, investors, bankers, financial institutions and selected strategic partners.

The webinar is tagged ‘Accessing Capital During Unprecedented Times’. During the event, the speaker panel will discuss how to best support entrepreneurs and businesses impacted by COVID-19 and suggest ways to unlock funding for African projects.
