IMSU ASUU Faults FG's Offer, Gives Fresh Conditions To End The Strike by BEHEST(m): 12:07pm On Nov 25, 2020
Imo State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed discontent over the recent Federal Government offer to the union to call-off the eight-month old strike.

In an exclusive chat with 2019/2020 IMSU SUG Director of Information Comr. Duru Victor today, the Chairman of IMSU ASUU Engr. Luke Uzoigwe said the N65bn Federal Government is offering is a far-cry from the N220bn the union had demanded.

He maintained that the money is not enough and proposed an improved offer as a condition for the suspension of the strike.

He said: " Federal Government wants to provide only N65bn (N35bn for earned academic allowances and N30bn for revitalization of universities) and we say it is not enough.

"In the magnanimity of the union we said, ok, bring half of the N220bn we initially demanded (that's N110bn) but the Federal Government said they don't have such money and so ASUU is saying no".

IMSU ASUU however offered new condition for the suspension of the strike.

"Instead of N65bn, pay ASUU N80bn - N40bn for earned academic allowances for federal universities and N40bn revitalization. That's what our branch is suggesting to the federal government. That's the position of ASUU IMSU".

"But for now we have not agreed with the Federal government", IMSU ASUU Chairman maintained.

ASUU will again meet with the Federal Government on Friday 27th even as Nigerian students hope that this meeting will see an end to the FG-ASUU impasse.
