Few days back the ASUU committee had asked it members to deliberate on whether the strike should be called off or not for the 65 billion naira the FG agreed to pay and the old payment method it agreed to use from it last meeting with her.

Majority of ASUU branches came up with motion to continue the strike until the FG had paid it full arears. ABU agreed on the 40 billion proposed for the Earned Academic Allowances but made a statement that the money be paid before the strike is called off.

Federal university of Petroleum Resources(FUPRE) said that negotiations must be completed before the strike should be called off.

University of Agriculture, Makurdi(UAM) ASUU chapter voted for a continuation of the strike saying that all salaries and sundry allowances must be paid before a calling off of the strike should be considered.

The ASUU chapter of UNILORIN led by it chairman, Professor Moyosore Ajoa said they are in alignment with the ASUU national body.

With all the ASUU branches resolve, yesterday’s meeting was held in high anticipation to an unknown outcome but after the meeting the FG pledge to pay the sum of N40 billion for Earned Academic Allowances and N30 billion for the revitalization of the university system bringing the total payment to N70 billion which was accepted by ASUU.

The FG further agreed to settle the arrears of salaries of the lecturers before December 31 of this year. ASUU will now have to discuss with it body before announcing a date for the calling off of the strike.

After the meeting the Minister of Labor, Ngige said: “Many issues were discussed at the meeting including salary for shortfall, the payment system and revitalization of the university system.
