Liverpool agree Torres fee with Atletico Madrid
June 30, 2007

Liverpool are on the verge of a £26.5 million deal for Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres.
BBC Sport says a transfer has now been agreed between Liverpool and Atletico, with Diego Forlan replacing the departing Torres.

Liverpool's Luis Garcia is likely to go in the opposite direction for £4.5m, but the Torres deal will not collapse if he rejects the switch.

Liverpool hope that he could put pen to paper within the next few days.

Atletico's announcement that they had agreed a £14.2m deal to sign former Manchester United striker Forlan on a four-year contract from Villarreal is effectively confirmation that Torres is on his way to Anfield.

Liverpool officials are playing their cards close to their chest on what will be a move that shatters their previous club record deal, the £14m paid to Auxerre for Djibril Cisse three seasons ago.

But it is understood the framework of the Torres move is finally in place between the two clubs after lengthy and complicated negotiations - although Liverpool remain cautious until it is actually signed and sealed.

AC Milan president Berlusconi: I want Inter's Adriano
July 01, 2007

AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has declared interest in Inter striker Adriano.
"If only! I have always liked Adriano a great deal and think that he would be at ease at Milan among all the Brazilians we have here," smiled Berlusconi.

"Milan are a huge family and being here would give him the opportunity to express himself at his best, just as Ronaldo already has."

This is not the first time that the thought of Adriano wearing the Rossoneri jersey has crossed the front pages, but Berlusconi takes it a step further.

"With what happened recently I'm not sure if it will be possible, as I called Massimo Moratti to organise a friendly match so Milan and Inter could celebrate their success together, but we haven't been able to find a date yet.

"Having said that, I repeat that I would very much like Adriano at Milan if we could reach an agreement with Inter."

Wenger fears Man Utd favourites for Anelka
July 01, 2007

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger fears being outbid by Manchester United for Bolton Wanderers striker Nicolas Anelka.
The People says Bolton have admitted in private that they would not be able to turn down a £12m bid after buying Anelka for £8m only a year ago and this has alerted Sir Alex Ferguson to the possibility of signing 'Le Sulk'.

Wenger knows Anelka could well choose to sign for United ahead of Arsenal because he has already stated he would find it hard to turn down the reigning Premiership champions.

Arsenal boss Wenger to make £20M Eto'o offer
July 01, 2007

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is putting together a £20 million package for Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o.
The People says Wenger has been given the nod to break the bank by the Arsenal board and move for the African striker as replacement for Thierry Henry.

Henry moved to the Spanish giants last week in a deal worth £16m, but Barca were not interested in a swap deal at the time because they value Eto'o at £30m.

However, Wenger feels that, with all that has gone on between Eto'o and Ronaldinho this season, the club are looking to get rid of their fiery star, which could see the asking price lowered.

The only real stumbling block could be if Eto'o wants a rise on his already huge wages of £120,000 a week.

Wenger's future has become uncertain since the departure of David Dein but a big name and new blood coming into Arsenal would surely see him stay.

Kaka pleads with AC Milan to "listen to" Real Madrid offer
- July 01, 2007

Kaka has asked AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi to allow him to join Real Madrid, it has been revealed.
AS says Kaka met with Berlusconi at the Milan supremo's plush offices at the beginning of June - before he left for his summer break in New York.

The meeting was the first time that Kaka had expressed a wish to leave Milan in front Berlusconi, with the Brazilian reportedly saying: "President, I have won everything with Milan and have given everything for this club in the years that I have been here.

"But now Real Madrid calls me and that challenge does excite me. Please decide. I only ask you that you listen to them , "

Meanwhile, Real sports director Pedja Mijatovic sees the capture of Kaka as a personal mission. Mijatovic knows that if he can land the midfield ace, he will silence the snipers who have questioned his work in the market in the last 12 months,

Arsenal snap up striker Da Silva

Eduardo is Arsenal's first signing since the departure of Thierry Henry
Arsenal have swooped to sign Croatian international striker Eduardo da Silva from Dinamo Zagreb.
The 24-year-old, who scored against England in a Euro 2008 qualifier in October, has signed a four-year contract at the Emirates Stadium.

The fee is undisclosed and Da Silva will be unveiled as an Arsenal player after completing a medical at the club.

Da Silva moved to Croatia when he was 15 and took nationality at 22. He has scored seven goals for his country.

Da Silva scored the first competitive goal at the Emirates when Arsenal beat Dinamo Zagreb 5-1 on aggregate in last season's Champions League third qualifying round.

He finished the Croatian season with a record 34 goals

Atletico Madrid on brink of £20M Villarreal deal for Forlan, Riquelme
- June 28, 2007

Atletico Madrid are close to clinching a massive £20 million-plus deal for Villarreal pair Diego Forlan and Juan Roman Riquelme.
AS says Atletico were in advanced negotiations last night and could announce an agreement some time today over the duo. Forlan is ready to move to Madrid, though Atletico will still need to convince Riquelme about returning to Spain after his successful six months back at Boca Juniors this year.

If Riquelme gives his approval, the deal will be worth £20 million - plus defender Luis Perea, who will move to the Yellow Submarines as a makeweight.

Atletico hope to announce Forlan's agreement today and won't push Riquelme for a commitment until next week.

Agent insists Lampard hasn't rejected Chelsea offer
- July 02, 2007

The agent of Frank Lampard insists the midfielder wants to stay with Chelsea.
It has been suggested the England midfielder had rejected a deal that would have netted him £131,000 a week, making him the club's highest-paid player.

But the 28-year-old's representatives have insisted that no talks have taken place with Chelsea.

Agent Steve Kutner said today that neither Lampard, chief executive Peter Kenyon nor himself have been free to set up a meeting since the end of last season.

He said: "The three of us haven't had a chance to have talks.

"There has never been a time when the three of us have been free as Frank has been on holiday and Peter has been away. But nothing has changed. Frank has always said he wants to stay at Chelsea for the rest of his career.

"He will join up with Chelsea's tour next week and will be as committed as ever. Nothing can get sorted out until he gets back, but there is no rush."

GUNNERS AGREE DA SILVA DEAL

Arsenal have agreed a deal with Dinamo Zagreb for the transfer of Croatia striker Eduardo da Silva for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old was born in Brazil, but having moved to Europe at the age of 15, he took Croatian nationality in 2002.

The striker - who has agreed a four-year deal and will sign if he passes a medical - scored the first competitive goal at Emirates Stadium when the Gunners beat Dinamo during last season’s Champions League third qualifying round in late August.

Da Silva has scored seven goals in 12 appearances for Croatia - including one against England during the 2-0 Euro 2008 qualifier victory in Zagreb last October.

The deal for da Silva is the Gunners’ first move in the transfer market since the £16million sale of captain Thierry Henry to Barcelona.

Lampard exit talk cools

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard's agent insists the England international has no intention of leaving Stamford Bridge and wants to stay at the club for the rest of his career.

Weekend reports suggested the 29-year-old had turned down a contract extension that would have made him the Blues' highest earner with wages of £131,000-a-week.

Both Barcelona and Juventus have been linked with the midfielder, but Lampard's agent, Steve Kutner, says such talk is premature as he has not had the chance to speak to the club's chief executive Peter Kenyon about a new contract.

He will join up with Chelsea's tour (of the USA) next week and will be as committed as ever. Nothing can get sorted out until he gets back, but there is no rush."

Last week Lampard had said: "I have two years left on my contract at Chelsea, that's the way it is.

Tigers warning over Juninho

Hull City manager Phil Brown has revealed his interest in signing Juninho, but has warned the veteran Brazilian that he won't break the bank to land him.

The 34-year-old former Middlesbrough playmaker has held talks with the Tigers about a possible free transfer return to England, but Brown has hinted the two parties are poles apart when it comes to reaching an agreement.

"It will eventually come down to finances and we are not going to break the bank and the spirit of the group for any one player," he told the Hull Daily Mail.

"We don't want to destroy the team spirit we manufactured and nurtured last season ahead of our onslaught on the Championship this season."

WENGER TURNS ATTENTION TO DEFENCE

Having already brought in Polish goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, the Arsenal boss is determined to add some more quality.

Wenger is now expected to step up his interest in Auxerre full-back Bakary Sagna.

The 24-year-old is likely to cost around £6million and is keen on a move to Arsenal.

There has, meanwhile, not yet been any official announcement on the role of director of football.

It now seems likely former player Gilles Grimandi will be offered the post, which was created following the shock departure of vice-chairman David Dein in April.

YAKUBU ON ERIKSSON`S WISH LIST

Sven-Goran Eriksson is believed to have made Middlesbrough striker Ayegbeni Yakubu one of his top targets should he become Manchester City manager.

City need to strengthen their attacking options after scoring only 10 goals in 19 home Premier League games last season.

Yakubu, along with Bolton's Nicolas Anelka, is being linked with a move to Eastlands.

Publicly, Boro have insisted all summer that 24-year-old Yakubu - who has scored 35 goals in his two seasons on Teesside - is not for sale.

However, it would be no surprise if the club decided to cash in on any offer in excess of the £7.5million they paid Portsmouth for the former Maccabi Haifa forward.

KEANE STEPS UP STRIKER SEARCH

Sunderland manager Roy Keane is stepping up his search for a top-class striker after getting the cold shoulder from Jermain Defoe.

Keane, who withdrew the club's offer for Preston's David Nugent, then reportedly turned his attention to Tottenham hitman Defoe.

Keane is adamant he only wants players in his squad who show 100% commitment to the cause, and will now focus on his remaining targets in a bid to find the firepower to make the impact in the Premier League he craves.

He recruited David Connolly, Dwight Yorke and Stern John last season, and the emergence of Daryl Murphy proved key in his side's victorious Coca-Cola Championship campaign
