We all know that Gates are meant for protection, guiding nd creating a landmark or territory so why do we read in the bible that Heaven also has gates?12 got that matter.

Rev 21:12-14

It has a great, *high wall* with *twelve gates,* and at the gates *twelve angels,* and on the gates are inscribed the names of the *twelve tribes* of the Israelites; 13 on the *east three gates, on the north three gates,* on the *south three gates,* and on the *west three gates.* 14 And the wall of the city has *twelve foundations,* and on them are the twelve names of the *twelve apostles of the Lamb.*

Careful examination of the contents of the chapter will reveal that the gates in question do not belong to Heaven but the new Jerusalem that will, according to the dream, descend out of Heaven, as part of John's dream/vision.

Revelation 21 vs 9- 19 (ERV)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
9. One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”
10. And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God.
11. It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal.
12. It had a great, high wall with twelve gates, and with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel.
13. There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south and three on the west.
14. The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

Gates are also meant to keep Unwanteds Out as well as to Exhibit borders!

And for Aesthetic Purposes too. Some Gates and Estates are Just So Beautiful that a gate would be Needed to Complete the Beauty thereof!
